I have been to Sew together in Doncaster this weekend. One of the ladies that used to go sent some lingerie fabrics lace and elastics in. I will be putting them on here free to good homes. All I ask is to pay for postage. First person to ask will be offered it first. Pictures will be in comments…

What do you do when you’ve made a T-shirt and there’s just enough fabric left to make one more thing? 🤔

Throw it away? Absolutely not! 😱

You make a pair of panties, of course! 😂🩲

No, there’s no matching bra… before anyone asks! Who will be looking 🤣 But I’m calling it a win because the leftovers didn’t end up in the scrap bin, and I’m really pleased with how they turned out.

Made using the Evie La Luve Mabel panties pattern. 🩷🧵

Sorry I’ve been quite for a while. I’ve changed the name for now. I feel I needed a change. I’ve been rather busy since I retired. How did I fit it all in 🤷‍♀️ I’m aiming to post once a week.

If you want to start making lingerie from scratch, it’s best to build your skills in stages. Lingerie uses delicate fabrics and precise techniques, so starting with simpler projects will make the learning curve much easier.

Here’s a good progression:

1. Learn the basics of sewing
* Become comfortable using a sewing machine.
* Practice sewing straight and curved seams.
* Learn to sew with lightweight and stretchy fabrics.

2. Understand lingerie materials

Familiarize yourself with:

* Stretch lace
* Power mesh
* Jersey and stretch satin
* Bra elastics
* Fold-over elastic
* Rings and sliders
* Underwires (for bras)
* Hook-and-eye closures

3. Start with beginner-friendly projects
* Cotton briefs
* Bikini underwear
* Bralettes (without underwires)
* Lace panties
These projects teach elastic application and working with stretch fabrics before tackling structured bras.

4. Learn lingerie-specific techniques
* Applying picot elastic
* Sewing fold-over elastic
* Stabilizing stretch fabrics
* Making adjustable straps
* Fitting for comfort

5. Move on to bras

Structured bras require:

* Accurate measuring
* Cup construction
* Underwire channels
* Precise fitting

Many experienced sewists consider bras one of the most challenging garments to make, so don’t be discouraged if it takes several attempts.

Essential equipment

* Sewing machine with a zigzag stitch
* Ballpoint/stretch needles
* Small sharp scissors
* Rotary cutter and mat (optional but helpful)
* Wonder clips or fine pins
* Measuring tape
* Fabric marking tools

Great learning resources

* YouTube tutorials on lingerie sewing
* Online lingerie sewing classes
* Independent lingerie pattern designers with step-by-step instructions
* Sewing communities and forums where makers share fitting advice

What is the best way to search to make my own bra.

There are several ways to look for bra making.
Classes that are local to you
University if your intending to use this eventually to further your career
Internet is vital in this day and age lots of ways to search
Key words
Bra making
Drafting your own bra
Lingerie drafting
How to make my own lingerie
his
Then Instagram offers another way to look at bra making. Lots of help there not necessarily by experts but help none the less.
A lot of time can be spent looking for knowledge especially if you’re well endowed.
The advice that seems still to be lacking or not as available is how to put more volume into a bra because it’s just not quite there.
If anyone wants me to look further into this I can do as I know there’s some out there really struggling to get the right fit. This can be frustrating and depressing for one. Don’t give up
Start with your wire make sure you have that right first.
Take it further get a fitting band done make sure that’s right. Then we come to the cups and the volume…

Picture to show my first set of bra and knickers since retiring and yes there 4 pairs of knickers 3 pair of the Maxine pantie by Evie’s La Luve with scraps of lace added. I worked with 95cm of lace to get these done
One pair of Mabel panties by Evie La luve
Bra is the Margareta by bwear
These are my some of my go to patterns. I did need to alter the top of the lace cup on the bra I have lost some of the volume at the top of the breast.

👙Small sewing room👙

Small sewing rooms can be incredibly functional and cozy with smart organization and space-saving strategies. Whether you're working with a corner of a room or a tiny dedicated space, here are some ideas and tips to make the most of it:

🧵 Essential Features for a Small Sewing Closet ✂️

👙Fold-Down or Slide-Out Work Surface
* A fold-down table mounted to the wall or a slide-out shelf creates a workspace without sacrificing room.
👙Vertical Storage
* Pegboards for hanging scissors, rulers, rotary cutters.
* Hooks for thread spools or small baskets.
👙Clear Storage Bins & Drawers
* Stackable, labeled bins for fabrics, notions, and tools.
* Rolling carts that can be pulled out for access, then tucked away.
👙Lighting
* Install LED strip lights or a battery-powered puck light if the closet doesn’t have an outlet.
👙Compact Sewing Machine Setup
* Store the sewing machine on a shelf or a rolling cart with locking wheels.
* Use a cover to protect it from dust.
👙Door Storage
* Over-the-door shoe organizers work great for storing thread, tape, zippers, or small tools.
👙Thread Rack or Wall-Mounted Organizer
* Maximize wall space with a thread rack or magnetic knife strip for metal tools.

👙Design Tips
* Color Code Storage: Helps you find what you need faster.
* Use a Mirror or Bright Paint: To make the space feel more open.
* Keep Only What You Use: Pare down to essentials to avoid clutter.

👙You don’t need a large amount of space for lingerie stash. You could keep it all in one box, light and dark or if you have the room keep it by colour. The choice is yours and what works for you👙

My first outing after retiring. I went out with several sewing friends to sunny bank mills. We had a tour of the museum. How interesting hearing how the cloth was made. I also saw a bra that was made by Rigby and Pellar. I had chance to get up close and see the differences how they made the bra to how we have made them. I have taken a few photos so you can see the minor differences.

As promised I said that I would find where online vendors were in this country. There could be more that I missed but at least you should have some idea where to shop.

All orders placed today will go out in tomorrow’s post. You should get them shortly.
I would like to thank each and everyone who has purchased over the last two months of the closing down sale. We have now closed and the website has been taken off line.
I will be putting a post on here with details of all other vendors in this country. You should then be able to keep a copy and go through the online vendors at your connivence to find any future requirements. It could take a few days as I have other commitments. I will get them done as soon as I can.

Lots of love and sewing vibes coming your way

It’s hard to say this, but in 7 days we’ll be closing our doors for the final time.

This has been more than just a business—it’s been a community, and we’re so thankful for every single one of you who supported us along the way.

We’d love to see you one last time before we go 💛
