A Georgian Scottish laburnum vernacular Glasgow pattern chair.

Well constructed in the traditional Scottish provincial style. The elegantly swept crane-necked arm rests are supported on well formed turnings which are continuous with the front legs.

The backrest is uncommon in its design, utilising both horizontal and vertical narrow splats, with reeded detailing to their outer edges only.

It is more uncommon to see these wonderful chairs constructed in laburnum. It's intricate and well figured grain can be seen through the frame.

Glasgow pattern chairs were among the more common type of joined chairs made in Lowland Scotland during the 19th century, with local wrights making them in smaller number with their own artistic flourishes, and provincial nuances showing in the chair’s design.

An uncommon cased set of early 19th century c**k fighting spurs.

The period mahogany box has six internal compartments and contains two pairs of spurs, also known as gaffs.

The early Victorian steel spurs are all struck with the maker's mark initials I.W.
Each spur is hand sewn onto a brown leather leg binding wrap.

One pair with approximately 2 1/2" or 6.3cm curved spurs. The other pair with approximately 2 1/4" or 5.8cm curved spurs.

It is certainly uncommon to find 19th century spurs in their original fitted case. A must for any collector.

Within the case is also a curved needle which would have been used when binding the spurs onto the bird's legs. It is a nice addition having this present still within the case.

These fierce looking items would have been bound to the c**k's leg, with the bird's own leg spur passing through the ring opening.

C**k fighting was the ancient sport and gambling opportunity, which became a popular pastime in England during the 16th century.

Undoubtedly gruesome, nevertheless these make for a fascinating relic from our social history.

A scarce Irish 19th century pine tavern cricket table.

Constructed in solid pine with pegged joints, with the large circular top formed from four individual planks.

A lovely fresh to market example sourced direct from Northern Ireland.
Found in honest condition, with historic worm tracks adding great charcter to the piece and helping to enchance its rustic aesthetic.

The under tier shelf is a good indicator that the table was indeed used in a tavern. This useful addition to the design allowed patrons to sit their beverages down, leaving the table top clear for gambling without the risk of a spilt drink ruining their game.

To the outer edge of the table top are the initials R B which have been primitively carved in to the timber. This could be an indicator of its maker, or alternatively some pub graffiti which slipped the landlord's watchful eyes.

A very rare Irish 19th century painted Sugan rocking chair.

This is an incredibly desirable example with typical through-wedge construction. The spindle railed backrest over the original traditional woven Sugan panelled seat. Incorporating thick legs terminating with gentle rockers ends, which is a design feature rarely seen in this type of chair.

The chair is found in wonderful historic deep green painted finish. In areas of contact glimpses of the underlying orange paint have been revealed. A combination of age related wear and evidence of cracking to the painted surface have helped to create a stunning patina.

There are two interesting repairs to note which add to the chair's character. One spindle has at some point been bound with string. The repair was then covered by paint and shows sign of significant age, illustrating this is certainly historic. The second repair is to the base of the back left support, where two metal straps have been fitted. This is also an old fix and shows the "make do and mend" mentality of its original owners.

A charming English 18th century oak bacon back settle of small proportions.

Originally from Somerset.

The high panelled backrest when opened reveals a full height shallow hanging cupboard space with brass hooks.

These types of settle with cupboard backrest are traditionally associated with the hanging and curing of bacon. Given the name 'bacon back'.

A hinged seat panel when lifted reveals a shallow storage cubby, with two further drawers in the base section.

Raised on sledge supports typical of the Devon region.

At just over 1m wide this would be easily accommodated in any size home.

The cupboard space would now work perfectly for storing outdoor clothing, ideal for use in a hallway or boot room.
