Early handwritten contemporary ownership inscription in brown ink to the flyleaf/title page: “William Coke 1693”, identifying William Coke of Trusley, Derbyshire (d. 1718). * Subsequently from the private library of The Right Honourable George Rose (1744–1818), an immensely influential British statesman during the Georgian era. He served as a close confidant and right-hand man to Prime Minister William Pitt the Younger, holding high-level roles including Secretary to the Treasury and Treasurer of the Navy. Thomas William Coke (1754–1842), Earl of Leicester, widely known as “Coke of Norfolk.” Was an iconic British agricultural reformer, politician, and known acquaintance of George Rose.
