What a lovely thing to do for Dorchester at Christmas! Retail and hospitality businesses have really had it tough for the last many years and this small gesture of goodwill and generosity from an anonymous benefactor will make a great event even more enjoyable!

Thomas Hardy's Collection of letters to James Murray, suggesting words for the Oxford English Dictionary has come up for auction at Sotheby's. The auction closes on 10th December.

These letters are particularly interesting as they are unpublished and therefore new to scholarship.

The Dorset Heritage Centre is very keen to purchase them to provide public access. They’ve had a pledge of £5,000 from the Friends of the National Libraries, but would need to raise several thousand more in order to be able to meet the top estimated price.

The Used Book Fair is taking place at Dorset Museum & Art Gallery, TODAY, Saturday, 23rd November - FREE Parking in Dorchester every Saturday until 7th December and on Thursday, 12th December.

Our team has been busy sorting through the book donations for our Book Fair tomorrow 📚

Join us on Saturday 23 November from 10:00am to 4:00pm in the museum's Victorian Hall and browse a wide range of high-quality second-hand books at unbeatable prices.

Entry to the Book Fair is FREE and proceeds from the museum's stalls will support the ongoing upkeep of the museum and its extensive collections.
