Well we are absolutely kicking ourselves that it has taken us this long to get to L’Opaline in Beverley!
Last night Tracy and I finally got to use the Christmas present all the team at Rafters very kindly bought us, a voucher for L’Opaline, and what a fantastic choice it was.
We have been meaning to go for ages but for one reason or another just never got around to it.
Eddie has been a customer of ours at Rafters for a couple of years now so we know him quite well and we already knew just how particular he is about quality, standards and attention to detail. Many of you will also know Eddie as the winner of MasterChef in 2022 so obviously we went there with pretty high expectations.
Well it surpassed them!
It was honestly amazing.
We both had the smoked trout with crème fraîche and fine herbs to start and it was absolutely delicious. We then shared Eddie’s famous Alsatian Baeckeoffe of beef, lamb and pork for our main course and that was just superb. Tracy had the crème brûlée and I had the pain perdu for dessert and we couldn’t fault a thing.
But as good as the food was, and it really was exceptional, it was the whole experience that got us.
There is a real bit of theatre about the place. Eddie coming out of the kitchen, talking you through the food, chatting with everyone and just generally making you feel part of the whole thing. You can see just how passionate he is about what he does and how much every little detail matters to him.
The food is proper regional French bistro cooking with Eddie putting his own stamp on it and bringing in a little Indian influence here and there. The restaurant itself is small, relaxed and completely unpretentious and I think that’s what we loved about it. Nothing stuffy, nothing over the top, just a really special experience from the minute we walked in.
We have been saying for ages that we must go and now we’re wondering why on earth we left it so long!
We are very lucky to have somewhere like this right here in East Yorkshire and if you’ve been doing what we did and saying “we must go sometime”, get yourself booked in. You won’t be disappointed.
Finally a massive thank you to all our team at Rafters for such a thoughtful Christmas present. It was an excellent choice and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
And thank you Eddie and everyone at L’Opaline for looking after us so well.
Absolutely next level and we will definitely be back!
