A fish you don't see too often!

These beasts are Red wolf fish, scientifically known as (Erythrinus erythrinus) and these are the Peruvian locality.

A predatory fish that is compatible with large cichlids, barbs and catfish.

An absolutely amazing Anabantid.

These are found in the blackwater peat swamps or southeastern Asia so naturally they're in a blackwater system here.

I (John) had a few days off over the past weekend (how dare i) to visit two close friends and their family.

We'd sourced a group of rare cichlids for Si, a species that is hard to find and an absolute gem. As it happened , it timed perfectly with our visit. Myself and my wife were at the shop at 7.30am on a Friday morning catching them and we delivered them ourselves.

The main fish Si was searching for was Heros severus, which used to be known as Heros sp. Curare.

There was much debate for years to define which species is the actual, "Real" H.severus and the species properly entered the hobby around a decade or so ago. Early offered adult pairs sold for £350, which I know from personal, expensive experience 😅

Between myself, my dad Darren Southall and Si Dawson we kept this amazing fish for a few years, collecting a total of 10 specimens of varying sizes in the end.

We also had to barely convince Si to buy a few other South American beauties, an as-of-yet unidentified dwarf pike cichlid and a very impressive L027, Gold-line panaque (Panaque ambrusteri).

Si has supported the shop for years and continues to do so, all the way down in Plymouth!!

Most of the fish photographed have been supplied by us to contribute to his jaw-droping selection of fish.

I'm pretty sure we'll be supplying more fish to Si in the future, and we're incredibly appreciative of the support from 3.5hrs away!
