PLAN B - GET A DRIVER
We are looking to expand our veg box deliveries but need a new member of the team to help us get there.

We are looking for a driver for Tuesday afternoons 1.30opm - 6.30pm (approx - we have a busy week and a less busy week each fortnight)
The delivery run covers Old Kilpatrick, Bowling, Dumbarton, Alexandria and Balloch. If we can increase our box numbers we might run deliveries over 2 days so future availability for another morning or afternoon might also be helpful.
You need to
- have your own, clean van with appropriate business insurance
- be self employed and have public liability insurance
- be fit and able to deliver boxes up flights of stairs
- be friendly and helpful to our customers

Having a vague interest in veg would also be useful!

We pay a flat fee for the delivery of 50 boxes of £75 and will negotiate a price per box as we grow. We are aiming for 100 boxes by summer.

PIPED TV IN DUMBARTON

Did you know our building once housed Dumbarton's Home Piped TV service

Before rooftop aerials were common and long before streaming or digital TV, television was piped directly into homes via cables from a central aerial. Families didn’t tune a TV with k***s like today - they had a wall-mounted selector box to switch between BBC and later STV channels.

Rediffusion, the company behind the service, installed large aerials in strong signal areas, captured the broadcasts and delivered them through wires to homes, particularly in towns where reception was tricky. Subscribers paid a weekly fee to watch TV. When we were clearing out the loft we found old receipts for piped tv along Dumbarton High St which we'll frame and get up on our walls soon.

We are extending our delivery run and we’re now delivering our fresh seasonal veg & fruit boxes to more areas in West Dunbartonshire
You can choose between a weekly or fortnightly delivery and each box is packed with a colourful mix of veg. Choose from

🥕Basic Box - with staples such as carrot, mushroom, tomato, onion, garlic and seasonal veg £10
🥦Standard Veg - mix of seasonal veg for at least 2 main meals/substantial sides £10
🥬Large Veg - as above with addition of larger veg options for main meals to feed 2/3 people weekly or fortnightly £15.50
🌽Extra Large Box - at least 3 veg main meal items, sides and basic veg for approx 4 people £20

And if your chocolate bar has shrunk or tastes less chocolatey then you’re not imagining things.

There’s a serious global cocoa shortage caused by climate disruption, crop disease and long standing inequalities in farming systems. Prices have risen to record levels and supply is extremely tight.

You've probably started noticing the impact in shops too. Favourite chocolate bars might shrink in size, recipes may change, ingredients may be adjusted to replace the lack cocoa content.

Another reminder of how climate and supply chain challenges are reshaping the food we eat. Stay informed. Check your ingredients and if you can buy chocolate that pays fair wages like Divine, Tonys, Equal Exchange or supermarket brands that are labelled fairtrade.
