🎥 BEHIND THE LENS 📸

We hear you!

In March, DMC hosted The 5%, a live panel exploring the stark imbalance of FLINTA creatives working in production and behind-the-scenes roles across the live music industry.

The conversation was powerful. It highlighted the barriers that exist, but also celebrated the women and FLINTA creatives who are already carving out successful careers behind the scenes.

Behind the Lens is our first response.

Rather than simply talking about the imbalance, we want to help change it.

We’re proud to be partnering with The Young Women’s Movement to deliver this practical, hands-on opportunity for the next generation of young women and FLINTA creatives.

On Saturday 24 October, participants will explore music photography, filmmaking and the creative roles that bring artists and live performances to life.

Working alongside experienced creative laura meek , participants will get hands-on experience behind the camera, learn professional creative techniques, explore visual storytelling and discover the career pathways available across the creative industries.

You don’t need to be an expert. You don’t need to have a career plan.

You just need to be curious.

Because if we want to move beyond 5%, we need to create opportunities for the next generation to learn, build confidence and see themselves represented in the roles that happen behind the lens, behind the stage and behind the scenes.

🚨 WE’RE TAKING D&G TO GLASGOW! 🚨

Today we’re launching DMC EXPORT, a brand new artist development programme from Dumfries Music Collective, created to help artists from Dumfries & Galloway get out, get connected and get heard beyond the region.

And we’re kicking things off in Glasgow.

We’re absolutely buzzing to be partnering with our pals at Resonate Music Conference for their Networking Night at McChuills on 6 October, where we’ll be showcasing four fine artists from the South of Scotland:

These artists will be heading to Glasgow not just to perform, but to meet the people, build connections and experience the wider Scottish music industry first-hand.

We want to help artists from our region build the confidence, connections and experience to take their next steps - whether that’s Glasgow, Edinburgh, the rest of Scotland or further afield.

A massive thank you to Resonate for getting behind this and helping us make our first DMC Export trip happen.

We’re Pressing Pause to Move TRAX Forward

We wanted to let you know about the future of TRAX.

After listening to this year’s evaluations, feedback forms and conversations with artists, audiences, volunteers and partners, we’ve made the decision to take TRAX Festival on a one-year hiatus in 2026.

At DMC, we don’t collect feedback for the sake of it, we act on it.

Over the years, TRAX has grown into one of the South of Scotland’s biggest and best showcase music festivals, championing emerging artists and creating a platform for local talent alongside nationally recognised acts. We’re incredibly proud of what the festival has become, but we know it can be even better.

TRAX has always been a festival built for the people of Dumfries & Galloway, and you’ve been clear about wanting an even bigger, better experience. Rather than delivering “another year”, we’re taking the time to reimagine and plan what TRAX can be.

The good news? TRAX is already coming back in 2027.

And we’ve already started making it happen.

- A brand new venue.
- A headline artist already booked.
- Big plans that we’ll be sharing over the coming months.

This year isn’t about pressing pause - it’s about building something stronger, more ambitious, and even more representative of the incredible music community we have here.

Thank you for continuing to shape TRAX with us. We can’t wait to welcome you back bigger, better and built together in 2027.

You'll be creating content, designing campaigns, managing our social media, growing our audiences and helping bring incredible projects to life.

Ideal for someone who:

- Wants to make a real impact for young people

We’re proud to announce that we are now a signatory of Scottish Music Industry Association (SMIA) Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility (EDIA) Action Framework.

As an organisation representing artists and creatives from across Dumfries and Galloway aged 15 and over, we’re committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive and accessible creative community where everyone can thrive.

Signing the EDIA Action Framework reinforces our commitment to championing equality, celebrating diversity, improving accessibility, and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to participate, create and be heard.

We believe that a stronger, more vibrant creative sector is one where every voice matters, and we’re proud to be part of a collective effort to make Scotland’s music and creative industries more equitable for all.

We’re encouraging other organisations, creative groups and individuals to join us by signing the SMIA EDIA Action Framework. Together, we can help build a creative sector where everyone feels welcome, valued and empowered to succeed.

Last month, we won the 2026 Award at the annual Spring Gathering! 🥇💐

This is a special, peer-voted award that is granted to a local organisation to help support young people. A huge thank you to everyone who recognised and voted for all of our hard work - with this grant we are able to increase our reach even further. 🥹

So, with the money, we aim to establish a Music Instrument Workbench, following the success of our Instrument Library. The workbench will inspire young folk to explore creativity, sustainability, and practical skills through the up-cycling & creation of instruments. The workbench will provide tools, materials, and guidance for participants to repair, modify, and repurpose old or unused instruments.

This project was inspired by the volume of slightly broken instruments that we received on donation, that had decades worth of life left - if only someone had the tools and knowledge to mend them!

Shoutout to DMC alumni for collecting the cheque for us. 🙏
