Granny Beattie's Kist

Granny Beattie's Kist Granny Beattie lives in the tranquil and picturesque village of Dunbeath in Caithness birthplace of Neil M Gunn author of the book "The Silver Darlings".

Dunbeath is a coastal village with spectacular rugged scenery and breathtaking hills. Deer roam freely in the woods and pheasants strut in the gardens. The name Granny Beattie came about when my granddaughter started to talk but could not say Betty. It came out Beattie hence Granny Beattie was born. I have always loved knitting and crafts. Thurso is the town of my birth and my great grandparents w

ere fisher folk. My great grandmother went to the herring gutting and her husband was a fisherman. She knitted all his ganseys (jumpers) but never used a printed pattern as she could never follow it but was able to just look at a picture and reproduce it perfectly. I hope my love and passion for knitting and crafts show through in the work I do.
