The unpeated, triple-distilled side of Springbank and the one Campbeltown regulars quietly rate the highest. Ten years in ex-bourbon casks: baked pineapple and honeycomb on the nose, green apple and custard cream through the middle, a mineral, salted-caramel finish.

In the hills south of Inverness, close enough to the Speyside line to carry that fruit-forward streak, Tomatin grew through the twentieth century into the largest malt distillery in Scotland, with almost all of that spirit vanishing into blends. Which is exactly why its 1990s casks, so rarely seen under the distillery’s own name, have become quiet treasures for independent bottlers.

Chapter Thirty Four brings one into the light: a single refill hogshead, thirty-one years, no finish and nothing borrowed. Natural cask strength, 57.9%, just 171 bottles.

Kilkerran Heavily Peated is back! Batch 14, bottled at 58.3% ABV.

Distilled at Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown, natural colour and unchillfiltered, with the oily texture and coastal peat character the series is known for. Each batch shifts a little from the last, and the 14th is no exception. It’s utterly fantastic!
