Proudly seafarer-owned small Scottish 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 business

Serving customers of the Merchant Navy and maritime community with made-to-order mariner-designed gifts. 🎁🚢⚓

Today we celebrate Merchant Navy Day, honouring Merchant Navy seafarers, both officers and ratings, past and present, who have served in times of conflict and peace.

The Merchant Navy keeps our islands supplied, connected and moving, with seafarers often spending weeks or months away from their loved ones. Today is an opportunity to recognise their hard work, professionalism and sacrifice.

Pictured above is one of the many hard-working seafarers sailing under the Red Ensign: 2nd Steward Kimmi on board CalMac’s MV CALEDONIAN ISLES, proudly wearing our Great Harbour Gifts Merchant Navy pin badge to mark the occasion 🫡🚢

The second coming of Christ has arrived! 😂

After his recent voyage from the Sea of Galilee to Aberdeen, “Maritime Jesus” is pictured here showing off one of our T-shirts 👕

Thank you, Captain Gary of the Scottish Marine Directorate! ⚓️🏴

Having to explain everything to the DPA and the office ashore? Are you doing the compliance job from the ship for no extra money? Then this could be the notebook for you 😂

Special thanks to Merchant Navy seafarer and Lord High Commander of the Dover VTS Tower of Power! Eagle-eyed and scanning the horizon with a thousand-yard stare, with Great Harbour Gifts mug in hand 🔭🚢😄

Incredibly proud of Merchant Navy Master 🇬🇧🚢 Captain Philippa Bowden MNM, HonDUniv, AFRIN, AFNI, for being awarded an honorary doctorate by Portsmouth University for services to maritime education, mentoring and safety. 👏 ⚓ 🎓

Me 4 years ago on Marine Scotland's MPV HIRTA (Marine Directorate) somewhere in the North Sea. Note the thousand yard stare! 👀😂

The Royal Museums Greenwich ‘Making Waves’ series is an excellent digital storytelling project highlighting women in maritime, ashore, at sea and in STEM.

🇬🇧 Captain Philippa Bowden MNM, AFNI, AFRIN, Ice Pilot and IAATO Ambassador 🇦🇶 is the latest exceptional woman to be interviewed for this prestigious project and in turn become part of our nation’s maritime record, with her story forever preserved by the National Maritime Museum.

In it she talks about her time on general cargo ships in the Arctic (or proper ships as I like to call them 😉), her years with the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) supporting world-class science operations in Antarctica and her later years on ice-class expedition passenger ships.

If you get a chance, read about some of the other maritime women featured in the series as well. They might not be the regular crowd you see at London shipping events or with thousands of followers on social media, but they’re making a massive contribution to the maritime industry every day, just like Philippa. ⚓️

Got to meet one of the Laurettes last night! 😍
She was performing last night at the Holy Loch Marina for our summer berth holders party 🎉 🎸🎙️⛵ 🛥️

Not bad considering I was in major surgery only under two weeks ago! 😂 Luckily I was only attending socially and not working.

Once again thank you to my shipmates, friends and followers for their kind messages of support for my recent dry-dock. The first operation was a success and hope to be home next week resting before returning to work at the marina again next month. Great Harbour Gifts continues to be run as normal (from hospital lol) and all orders are being processed and dispatched on time! 😀🎁

Thanks to the bridge team on MV HIRTA (Scottish Government Marine Directorate) for showing off our mugs in action at sea! 😂
