We are often questioned why we give away music that bands are compelled to buy.
Usually from people outside our area and other retailers.
I'll share some numbers.
We run our "Qualifiers' Free Finals Music" offer in the North of England and in Scotland.
So we have a maximum of 20 qualifying bands within our patch.
This year we are supplying finals test pieces to 11 bands.
In money terms those 11 pieces, at catalogue prices, total £914.73.
I can hear the question now - "Why give away so much money?"
And the reply is easy, "We don't!"
We support "Our" bands to this amount.
And we are delighted we are helping so many!
We are very aware how much competing at finals can cost a band.
Yes York will reduce travel costs for us "Up North" but not by much, and everything else, including entry fee, increases all the time.
We at Durham Music Shop help our bands in every way we can and it is usually appreciated.
We charge zero P&P on any order over £40 and can give you competitive prices on all enquiries.
We stock sheet music, mutes, mouthpieces, oils, gifts and accessories.
We also supply embroidered and printed clothing and banners.

As we eagerly await the confirmation of the Lower Section Finals test pieces to be performed at York Barbican later in the year we have been looking at how well our unique offer to NoE and Scottish bands has performed.

When existing titles are selected this affects the number of purchases to an extent as some bands already have them in their library.
Further we were aware that some individuals were pairing up bands to loan sets. We recognise the good intentions, and also the illegalities, but need to consider this did affect our figures.

Over the 5 sections we received 44 orders.

We are very pleased to have supplied 8 qualifiers.
Our most successful section being the 1st Section where we will be supporting 3 of the 4 qualifiers from the 2 regions.
If the rumours are true the chosen piece for this section will be double the price of most of the other lower section titles.
Is that good? of course it is, the driver of this offer is to help bands and so this is where we are being able to give the most help.

At Durham Gala again today.
Presently all quiet as band delegates are lock in for the draw for playing order.
Section 3, 10.30am start, 8 bands all playing the enjoyable Three Haworth Impressions by Gordon Langford.

We have a wide range of valve oils etc. They are all listed on our website.
We have FREE P&P on all orders over £40. So If a group of players in your band email us a list you can save even more money.

All ready for the big weekend in Durham for the North of England Regional Championships 2026.

Now that bands have the Regional Championships behind them or all sorted it is obvious they are planning ahead for their future programmes.

We received delivery of a small order yesterday (Saturday) and, as a responsive independent supplier, we've already got them in envelopes and on their way.

Scottish Brass Band Association 3rd Section results and its massive congratulations to our friends Selkirk Silver (MD Stuart Black). Also very well done St David's Brass who secured 2nd place. Both bands will qualify for the short trip to York for the finals.

Because St David's bought the test piece, Three Haworth Impressions, from ourselves at Durham Music Shop they will also benefit from FREE FINALS music once the set piece is a announced.

How many more winners will we get through the weekend?
