We are just a few minutes from the A1, with close proximity to provide all your gardening needs to those in and around County Durham. 🌷🌿🪴 Thinford Nurseries is a family owned and run nursery, with over 20 years experience of producing Plants, Hanging Baskets and Shrubs to the local public and councils. We take pride in the plants we grow from seeds and seedlings, using high quality compost at all stages of the plants lifecycle. On a yearly basis we are proud to produce over a thousand Hanging Baskets and Tubs to order, with customers returning year after year due to the colourful and outstanding display. Not only are we renowned for our Plants, Shrubs and Hanging Baskets, but we are a well known supplier of Seed Potatoes with over 10 varieties of Early, Main and Late Crop. Each winter we have a wide varierty of winter bedding, freshly cut Christmas Trees in many varieties and Holly Wreaths to order. We are just a few minutes off the A1 and have plenty of parking available.

It’s the perfect time to get planting, and we’ve got plenty to choose from at Thinford Nurseries!

🌷 Spring-flowering bulbs. We’ve got daffodils, tulips and more. Plant them now and look forward to a splash of colour when spring arrives!

Happy 17th Birthday to the youngest member of the Thinford Nurseries team! 🎉💚

Today we're celebrating someone who has quite literally grown up here. As the grandson and son of our family team, he's spent his whole life around the nursery.

As you can see in the collage, from being a toddler exploring the greenhouses, helping with watering, riding on tractors and diggers, and getting involved wherever he could, to now being a valued member of the team himself. The photos tell the story better than words ever could. A lifetime of memories made at Thinford, and plenty more still to come.

How to give your plants a helping hand in this hot weather. ☀️

A little extra care can make all the difference to your garden. Here are our top tips to keep your plants looking their best:
💧 Water wisely. Water early in the morning or later in the evening when it's cooler. This helps the water soak into the roots instead of evaporating in the heat.
🌺 Hanging baskets need extra attention. They dry out much faster than plants in the ground, so check them every day. On particularly hot days, they may even need watering twice.
🌳 Trees need a deep drink. Newly planted trees benefit from a slow, deep soak once or twice a week rather than little and often.
🌼 Feed your flowering plants. Keep hanging baskets and containers topped up with feed to encourage plenty of blooms.
🌱 Deadhead regularly. Remove faded flowers to help plants produce even more colourful blooms throughout the summer.
🍂 Mulch where you can. A layer of bark or compost around plants helps lock moisture into the soil and keeps roots cooler.

Evening everyone! Hope you’ve all had a brilliant Saturday in the sunshine.
