She did have a microchip but we were unable to contact the owner.

🚨 ANIMAL CRUELTY CONVICTION: OWEN RAYNER, STAINCROSS, BARNSLEY — LAUGHED WHILE CHASING, BEATING AND STAMPING ON DEFENCELESS DUCKS

Rayner, 20, from , , was recorded chasing and attacking three Mallard ducks with a large stick. The footage, posted on Snapchat, showed him stamping on the birds as they tried to flee.

Rayner was seen pursuing the ducks around the lakeside before striking them and stamping on at least three of them. The attack was carried out in front of two other older teenagers, who were laughing as the birds were abused.

He admitted an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 for intentionally killing or causing injury to three ducks or ducklings.

At Barnsley Magistrates’ Court, Rayner was handed an 18‑week suspended prison sentence, ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work, and told to pay over £500 in fines and costs.

The court heard the attack was deliberate, prolonged, and carried out for amusement.

Inspector Keith Hogben said: “I viewed three video clips showing older teenage men abusing several Mallard ducks by chasing them, hitting them with a stick, and stamping on at least three ducks. It’s unclear whether the ducks were killed.”

He added: “This is one of the worst deliberate acts of cruelty on innocent, defenceless animals I have seen in 27 years with the RSPCA. The fact those involved were laughing as they carried out this cowardly act shows how little respect they have for animals.”

“Animals feel pain, fear and distress just like we do, and always deserve kindness, compassion and respect.”
