A wonderfully unusual piece of traditional shop furniture, beautifully crafted in warm-toned wood with a lovely aged patina.

Featuring a recessed blue velvet-lined display top, a decorative brass lock with key, a panelled front and eight individual storage compartments to the rear.

Originally designed in the style of a traditional jeweller’s or specialist retailer’s counter cabinet, it’s an incredibly versatile piece.

A superb early Robert Thompson of Kilburn “Mouseman” oak stool, complete with the famous hand-carved mouse signature to one leg.

This is a particularly attractive example with a traditional hand-woven tan leather lattice seat, supported on a beautifully made solid English oak frame. The chunky adzed construction, shaped legs and low stretchers give it that unmistakable early Mouseman character.

The leather has developed a lovely warm colour and patina with age, while the oak has matured beautifully. There are marks, staining and general signs of use to the leather, as shown in the photographs — exactly the sort of honest wear you would expect from a genuine period piece.
