🎉 What a celebration! 🎉

Over the weekend, many of our incredible traders and market team threw themselves into the spirit of our 175th anniversary celebrations and dressed up in fashions from across the decades! 🕰️✨

From Victorian characters to retro classics, the Market Hall and Market Place were bursting with colour, laughter and community spirit all weekend long. At the end of Saturday's trading, we managed to gather some of our amazing indoor and outdoor traders together for a quick group photo beneath the bunting for this lovely snapshot 📸❤️

One day, we’ll manage to get every single trader and member of staff together for one gigantic Durham Markets family photo… but until then, this brilliant bunch will do nicely!

A huge thank you to everyone who dressed up, joined in, supported the celebrations and helped make our 175th anniversary so special. Here’s to the next chapter of Durham Markets history 🥂

🏆 Today's the day! 🏆

The NMTF Young Traders' Market is in town, and all the competitors are busy setting up, ready to start trading at 10am.

We wish them all the best of luck for today's heat, and we would love it if you could come along and show them your support. Many of today's competitors have spent hours upon hours, weeks upon weeks, tirelessly working on building up their stock, ready for today, so come and find it a new home! 🎁🛍

There are so many talented folk among the traders, and we don't envy the judges, who have to make the difficult decision about who to put through! We're sharing just a little sampler of the gorgeous items available to buy from our Market Place today.

While you're in town, don't forget that our Market Hall is also open today with the Bank Holiday opening hours of 10am until 4pm, so be sure to pop in and have a browse at the many stalls inside.

WOW! What an absolutely AMAZING day ❤️

A massive thank you to every single person who came along today to support our Through the Decades Weekender at Durham Market Place. From the performers, entertainers, traders, volunteers, the Mayor and reenactors… to every family, child, dog and visitor who joined us… THANK YOU 👏

Seeing the market place full of music, dancing, laughter, costumes, balloons, history, smiling faces and community spirit has honestly been so special.

Durham really showed up today ❤️

✨ Looking for something to do this coming Bank Holiday? Come along to Durham Market Place and support our young traders! ✨

Every year, the NMTF organise a nationwide competition to help discover hidden talent, give a platform for upcoming entrepreneurs, and show the younger generation the joy of running their own market business.

We're delighted to be hosting one of the regional heats this coming Monday, from 10am until 4pm, and we'd love it if you could come show your support.

Among the traders on the day, all aged 30 and under, are artists, bakers, crafters, jewellery makers, and authors, so there's a huge variety available. 💍🎨🍰📚

These talented traders will all be competing for a place in the regional finals held in Stratford-upon-Avon later on this summer. 🏆

Back in February, we launched the Durham Markets Photography Competition. We wanted to see what you interpreted as 'the spirit of Durham Markets', and we were flooded with responses!

There were three categories: Over-18s, Under-18s, and Under-13s, with a winner and a runner-up in each category.

We're thrilled to announce the winners are... drumroll, please...

Over-18s:
🥇 Winner: Ian Maggiore
🥈 Runner-up: Kathy Cann

Under-18s:
🥇 Winner: Mia Kennington
🥈 Runner-up: Sophie Lee

Under-13s:

Congratulations to all our winners! And thank you to everyone who entered - we loved seeing all your photos. We would also like to thank our judges, our resident professional photographers, , Michael from , and , who had the difficult job of picking just six winners from the many entries!

We will be framing the winning pictures 🖼 and displaying them in our Market Hall over the next couple of weeks, so you can come and see the winning photographs 'in the flesh', so to speak!
