We had great fun today judging flower and other plant classes at the Hilltop Gardening 40th Anniversary Autumn Show at Eastcombe near Stroud. The entries were extremely numerous and the standard very high. We took our judging duties very seriously but really enjoyed ourselves. It made a wonderful change from last Saturday when we provided flowers for three lovely local weddings. As an aside, the cake entries looked totally delicious and we rather wished we had been qualified to judge them as we left with our tummies rumbling!

We are recovering after an extraordinary number of people (545) came to our NGS opening on Sunday. We were told to expect 2-300 and had cake for 350! It was brilliant to see so many people enjoying the flower farm and we want to say a HUGE thank you to all our wonderful helpers, cake bakers, ticket sellers, parking attendants and everyone who helped make the day so joyful. We raised £4547.00 for the numerous charities supported by the NGS.

It’s a busy weekend. We’ve just sold out at Stroud Farmers Market (59 bunches before noon) and now gearing up for our flower farm NGS opening. We have no idea how many to expect as we haven’t done it before. We’ve made a LOT of cakes as have our lovely friends. Come and support the NGS and all their worthy causes. We are open from 11-4.

We had the great joy and privilege of doing the flowers for N & A’s wedding on a boiling hot day recently. We used all the bud vases in meadow boxes in the church first and then moved the whole lot plus a couple of large arrangements into the marquee afterwards. You can see them ready to load up. A great way to make your flower budget go further.

The glamorous life of a flower farmer. We haven’t had a spare early morning to use our compost cruncher till today as this isn’t something one wants to do in the heat. Very satisfying to reduce 2 very large piles of vegetation to a manageable chipped heap. We were FILTHY when we stopped but so satisfying.

We always feel very honoured when we are asked to do funeral flowers. We use a basket which fits ten hessian covered tin cans filled with flowers. These can be used at the wake and family and friends can take home afterwards. These are the two we did this week with the third picture showing the arrangements before going into the basket. We have found this to be our most popular funeral option. We charge a fully refundable deposit to ensure we get our basket back.

We had a very exciting week doing flowers for a box in the Royal Enclosure at Ascot. Thank goodness it wasn’t as hot last week as it is now because everything inside the box and balcony outside had to look perfect for the whole week. We thought very carefully about the flowers we selected. Every stem was cut from the flower farm with 100% sustainable mechanics. We were interested to see that the ‘no floral foam’ message hadn’t yet made it’s way to event floristry there as far as we could see.
