This beautiful double-terminated Kunzite crystal has a delicate lilac-pink colour, wonderful translucency and those distinctive natural vertical striations running along the crystal faces. The double termination makes it an especially attractive piece, with plenty of natural character throughout.
It’s just one of a selection of new crystals and mineral specimens currently being photographed and added to the website — with plenty more still to come.

Hello, I’m Kerr. 👋
For those of you who are new here, I thought it was probably time I properly introduced the person behind The Old and Curious.

The easiest way to explain me is that I’m apparently incapable of having a casual interest in anything.

I’m AuDHD, endlessly curious, and have a habit of disappearing down rabbit holes and emerging several years later with a collection, a new skill, or occasionally an entirely new business.

Minerals and fossils have fascinated me since childhood. I’ve been collecting for more than 40 years and selling for more than a decade — but that’s only one part of it.

Fossils led to geology, palaeontology and countless hours searching beaches searching for agates and fossils.

Plants led to carnivorous plants and orchids… which somehow became thousands of carnivorous plants, terrariums and a fascination with creating miniature living ecosystems.

Wildlife and the natural world led to conservation, animals, plants and a desire to understand how everything fits together.

Art led me to train in sculpture for many years, working in clay, stone, wood, glass and steel, with wildlife sculpture becoming a particularly important part of what I create.

Somewhere amongst all of that came The Old and Curious.

And eventually I realised something:

None of these interests are actually as unrelated as they first appear.
They all started with curiosity.

A New Chapter for The Old and Curious

For a while I've been quiet on here.

Not because I lost my passion, but because life had other plans.

Over the past couple of years I've faced more setbacks than I ever expected. Surgery, health issues, struggles with my mental health, and the daily challenges that come with ADHD and autism made it difficult to keep moving forward. There were times when even the smallest tasks felt overwhelming, and The Old and Curious inevitably took a back seat.

Despite everything, my passion for fossils, crystals, minerals and the natural world never disappeared. It was simply waiting for me to find my way back.

I'm pleased to say that I'm finally getting there.
For months I've been rebuilding almost everything from the ground up. The website has been redesigned, hundreds of products have been organised and photographed, and I'm creating the business I always wanted The Old and Curious to become.

Every item is guided by one simple philosophy:

Conscientiously sourced. Aesthetically chosen. Morally sold.

This isn't just a website relaunch.
It's a fresh start.

The Old and Curious has always been part of a much bigger dream. Every purchase helps support my long-term vision of Nature Unearthed—a project dedicated to inspiring curiosity, education and conservation.
The relaunch is getting very close, and I can't wait to start sharing new specimens, behind-the-scenes updates and everything that's been happening while I've been away.
If you've followed The Old and Curious over the years, thank you. Whether you've bought something, visited me at a show, or simply stayed here while things went quiet, it has meant more than you probably realise.

One of the questions we've been asked most over the years is:

"What's your favourite piece?"

The truth is, that's almost impossible to answer.

After decades of collecting, buying, selling, and curating, every specimen has a story behind it. Some are beautiful, some are rare, and some simply make you stop and stare for a moment.

This is one of those pieces though.

The kind of specimen that reminds us why we started collecting in the first place.

Over the coming weeks we'll be opening more drawers, unpacking more boxes, and sharing some of the fossils, crystals, and curiosities that have been hidden away behind the scenes.

The cabinet is opening once again.

We've been quiet for a while.

Not because we've stopped, After deciding last year to end this chapter, we have decided to come back with a different outlook. .

Behind the scenes we've been cataloguing, photographing, organising, and preparing thousands of fossils, crystals, and curiosities for the next chapter of The Old & Curious.

This Vera Cruz Amethyst from Mexico seemed like the perfect specimen to mark the beginning. Delicate, elegant, and a reminder that some of the most extraordinary things take time.

Over the coming weeks we'll be sharing some of our favourite specimens, hidden treasures from the collection, and a glimpse behind the scenes as we prepare for the relaunch of our website.

After months of work, we will finally be ready to start opening the cabinet once again.

Something extraordinary is coming.

Starting to clear some pieces that have been sat around waiting for me to do something with them. Hare is a large chunk of Quartz Var. Amethyst from Namibia. There is some damage that was caused on extraction, but it is a large piece weighing 4085 Grams.

I will be starting to go through our inventory over the next week or so and uploading some of our stock for interest, as well as lists of what we have available for wholesale and retail.

Will also write a proper post about whats happening, but have decided to sell up and shift career paths into wildlife sculpting.
