I was on the phone to my husband the other day when I noticed some tiny cute birds in the garden. Tree sparrows! 😊

I pointed them out to him straight away because they were hopping about eating the dandelions that have started growing again. I genuinely didn’t know birds ate dandelions, so I thought that was pretty cool.

Then another bird appeared. Much more colourful. I think it might have been a goldfinch? My husband immediately started excitedly saying “photo!!” down the phone while I was trying to put him on speaker, unlock my phone and open the camera in time 😂

Needless to say, the bird was far too quick for me. 🙈

I was a bit disappointed afterwards because I would’ve loved to have drawn them, but a few days later I found myself thinking about the moment again for a completely different reason.

It reminded me of the verses in Matthew 6 where Jesus talks about the birds of the air. How they don’t worry about what they will eat, and yet God provides for them. ❤

I worry a lot. Probably more than I should. My brain likes to jump ten steps ahead and imagine every possible outcome before anything has even happened.

But those tiny birds in the garden weren’t worrying about where their food was coming from. They were just there, finding what they needed in the middle of some scruffy dandelions I would normally think of as weeds.

It just felt like a really gentle reminder that maybe I don’t need to carry everything so tightly all the time. 😊

Lately I’ve really been enjoying slower mornings. Well, more like slower starts to the day! 🙈

I’ve been waking up closer to midday and it’s actually been really lovely just getting up when I’m ready instead of rushing straight into things. I’ll sit with my cereal or porridge and a coffee before I do anything else and just exist for a bit. (Unless I get up and make my hubby coffee whilst he's getting ready for work and decide to have one then too, which happened this morning.)

Usually I end up thinking about what needs done that day and what can probably wait until another day. I'll end up praying/ chatting to God about various things and people I love. Sometimes I’ll wonder how Andy’s getting on at work and send him a wee message. (Or chat to him whilst he's getting ready for work if I decide to get up

Hi everyone :)

This painting started from a bit of panic 🙈

Back in March, I was thinking about applying for Landscape Artist of the Year and realised I didn’t have any recent landscapes, and the deadline was coming up quite fast. I could feel myself getting anxious about it.

I found an old canvas that already had blue ink on it and remembered a photo I took in the Cairngorms when I was on holiday with my hubby. It was such a peaceful, quiet moment and I just felt like I needed to paint it.

So I started. No sketch, just paint.

At first I was still quite anxious, so I focused on my breathing and prayed, asking Jesus to help calm me down. As I kept going, everything else faded out and it just became about the painting. Mixing colours, adding lots of white, checking the photo, and trying out some new paints I got for Christmas.

Somewhere along the way I realised I don’t need to have everything planned out before I begin. I can just start and trust myself a bit more.

This piece means a lot to me because it reminded me of that calm moment on holiday, and it reminded me that I am capable of more than I think.

God is the ultimate Creator, and the fact that He’s given me even a small part of that creativity feels really special to me ☺️

I hope this brings you a little bit of calm and reminds you that you can start before you feel ready ❤
