Hi, I'm Jess and I'm The Whimsical Marbler. I make beautiful original marbled paper and marbled paper products for creatives that love handmade, bold and eclectic pieces to complement their own work. Living up to my business name I rarely plan colours in advance and don't often r

epeat colour and pattern combinations meaning that much of what I create is truly one off. All the papers used are FSC rated and most are produced in English paper mills (with the exception of the Japanese, Khadi and ephemera papers). All papers are ECF (elemental chlorine free) except for those which are TCF (totally chlorine free). Found a sheet of khadi paper I marbled probably 6 years ago in a drawer. I kept this marbled sheet as I loved the spread of the colour underneath the marbling but never knew what to do with it. After a few days of just thinking about it I decided it needed to be turned into a watercolour sketchbook for my fledgling watercolour practice.

So I sat down today and sewed it in a simple 5 hole pamphlet style with 10 blank folded sheets of khadi. Used a dyed piece of linen thread to sew it that I dyed probably close to 15 years ago when I did so many more bookish things.

It was so nice to return to making a book - something I haven't done in a few years. Maybe I should make more.

Something a little different and definitely not marbled!

I was asked by a client to try and replicate the paper from inside an antique cuckoo clock they were restoring.

Cue lots of tests with different paint and paste mixtures! I got to an approximation that both myself and the client was pleased with. Last image shows the sample I worked from.

I see something similar to this often called German marble but it's not quite the same. Does anyone recognise this design and knows what it's called? A Google search shows there are a lot of cuckoo clocks created with this design inside to cover the inner workings.

The weather here in Northumberland is glorious today, most welcome after the Easter wind, rain and hailstorms from Storm Dave.

I'm hoping for a fabulous sunset over the hills, but it won't be as bright as this sunset inspired sheet done for a client. It took me a while to balance the colours as the reds were a bit keener than the others to show their presence!

Looking forward to seeing what the client produces with it!

I don't normally wax sheets but this was a request from a client as I'm matching the sample she kindly sent me all the way from New Zealand!

Helps me strengthen those arms 💪🏼😅 while using my polisher from !
