Grit bins are commonly used during winter to store rock salt and grit. 👍 However, over the years, we've heard customers using grit bins for other purposes. 🙌 This customer, fo example, is using it store garden tools and bird seeds. 💪

Our product of the month is the 10 Kg white de-icing rock salt 🙌 👍

White rock salt is clean to use, leaving no dirty residue to be trodden into carpets in buildings and vehicles. After a winter season there is no residue to sweep up and no drains to be cleared. 🙏

The 10 kg bags are much easier to handle than the standard 25 kg bags therefore reducing the risk of injury. 👍

Winter can be unpredictable but to be classified as a bad winter there usually must be some form of disruption caused to our daily lives. Heavy snowfall or icy conditions are the most likely to bring the country to a grinding halt with transport issues, road closures and closures of schools or businesses. 😯

The winters we are about to discuss certainly caused havoc across the UK and stand as examples of how bad it can get during winter cold spells. 😱😰

The UK weather is always up and down. One day it is clear, the next it is raining, and the day after it’s snowing. You need to make sure you are ready for anything. 😎🙌

We know that stuff like rock salt and grit are confusing. Let’s have a look at the main differences between brown and white rock salt. 👍

Brown Salt:
✔️ Drier form of grit that is easier to spread
✔️ Cheaper
✔️ Less impact on the environment

White salt:
✔️ Cleaner product – won’t leave a speck of dirt after use, and it won’t ruin paving
✔️Recommended for use in public areas

Our product of the month! This Cemo salt spreader is extremely durable and offers a practical solution for medium sized areas. It's been designed specifically for winter salt and grit spreading around locations such as business premises, offices, industrial units and car parks. 😎👍

It features a 35 litre hopper constructed from corrosion-free polyethylene and an eccentric agitator for putting poorly flowing salt/grit back into motion. 💪

In Spring / Summer normally your grit bin will become redundant. 😎 What if we told you that you could reuse your grit bin around the office? Here are some of our favorite ways to reuse your grit bin during the warmer periods. 🙌

✔️Storage
If you have been filling up your grit bin over the winter, you will know they can store a lot inside them. Why not put all this space to good use?

✔️ Plant bed
If your office is looking a bit bland, you can transform your grit bin into a plant bed.
Fill the grit bin with compost and plant some seeds, over time you will have a blossoming array of office plants. Not only will it make the office look better, but your employees will also benefit from having office plants as well. Having plants in your office has several benefits

✔️ Paper recycling bin
Again, this uses their size to your advantage. The grit bin can be used to create a large paper recycling station, ensuring paper isn’t thrown into the general waste.
Once the bin is full, you can empty it into the wider paper collection recycling point, and it is ready to collect even more paper! 🙏

During winter, you need to be prepared for many surprises. 😎 From snowfall to frozen pavements, it’s one of the most unpredictable seasons of the year. Before we face the unpredictability, we’ve found the five most interesting facts that you need to know about winter.

✔️1) Winter x2 😮
Depending on whether you love or loathe winter, finding out there’s actually two winters may make or break your day. First, there is the astronomical winter. This is defined by the Earth’s orbit around the Sun. The other type of winter is the meteorological winter. The meteorological winter starts on the 1st of December, and is used to record climate data, as there needs to be a set date to compare data.

✔️ 2) Wet vs dry snow 🙄
Snow is the hallmark of wintertime, but have you ever thought to yourself, why is one day of snowfall different to another? You’ll often find snow is either dry or wet. Which means it either sticks together or is loose and powdery.

✔️ 3) Coldest winter temperature 🤧
The coldest recorded temperature during winter in the UK is -27.2 °C. If you think being hit by this temperature once is bad, spare a thought for the village of Braemar. The Scottish Highlands village has experienced this temperature twice.

✔️ 4) Earth is closest to the Sun in winter 🙃
Given the weather in winter, you’d be forgiven for presuming that the earth and sun are further apart during our coldest season. Well, that’s incorrect. Around the 3rd of January every year, the earth is the closest to the sun. On the 5th of July, the earth is the furthest away from the Sun.

The word winter comes from the Germanic wintar which in turn is derived from the root wed meaning ‘wet’ or water’, and so signifies a wet season.

Obviously the first use for a salt spreader would be to spread salt. 😎

Ice can cause havoc during the rush hour traffic if it’s not properly prevented with the aid of a salt spreader dutifully heading out on the roads late in the evening. 🙌
You can convert your salt spreader into a fertiliser or seed spreader, this is especially helpful for the warmer months and cost-effective too. 👍 You can also use the salt spreader in the spring and summer months as a chicken feeder, giving an even spread of feed for your lucky chickens to peck at.

What about snow shovels? 😎

Snow shovel, a part from shoveling snow, can be used for cleaning up your premises from sawdust and waste materials. It can also be used for mulching plant beds and landscaping or you can use it for feed, seed, fertilizer, and more. 🙌
Finally, a snow shovel can be used to move fill dirt when making a raised garden bed.
