Well that's all for now folks! The workshop is now temporarily closed! Thanks so much for all the kind wishes and for booking my diary out solidly until I finished!

For now I'm off to put my feet up whilst I still can. I'll let you all know when I'm making a return ... double check your cases are done up and keep the stage diving to a minimum until then, okay?!

I will be temporarily closing down the workshop from the 8th of March. I am thrilled to announce this is because I will be away on maternity leave! I am currently still taking bookings, so if bringing your instrument in to see me is on your to-do list, do get in touch to book an appointment.

So a Conn sax with some sneaky additions in the keywork is not unexpected, the Bb extension being easy to spot, and after a take apart service on this tenor I noticed that the G #/low B/Bb shortcut that has been installed is actually a C # pinky table touch piece. A previous technician thinking on their feet? Made me smile, works beautifully 👌✨🔨

For a while I have been able to hear someone practicing when I have the window open, it was so nice to connect the dots and meet the player that I could hear when they brought this horn into the workshop for the full spa treatment the other week✨

This is a Conn C melody. If you have never met one before C melodies are in between alto and tenor, size wise, and they were popular in the early 1900s. Being in C meant it was easier to jam with your pals without worrying about transposition...!

Allow me to distract from how long I have been neglecting you all with a pretty picture - this is a very sweet Conn Chu that was in for a full restoration last week.

Just like my 'gram this horn hasn't been maintained in a while, and a lot of the rod screws were seized with rust. This is a common problem you come up against with restoration and can usually be remedied with patience, oil and carefully applied heat. In the last few pics you can see however one rod screw was completely rusted into a pillar which I had to desolder from the body to free 🔨💪🔥
