Roslin Little Free Library

Roslin Little Free Library Little Free Library in the village of Roslin, Midlothian, Scotland. The Little Free Library is outside 6 Minstrel Court, Roslin on the left hand side.

The books have all been in my house for some time. Any donated books have been kept on oneside/quarantined for a minimum of 72 hours to ensure there is no contamination. I am fully vaccinated and boosted, symptom free and am still not socialising to any extent. I washed my hands before putting the books in the box. Andy, cleverly, made the handle from copper as it is known to be antibacterial/anti

microbial but please take your usual precautions before and after touching anything. There is sanitiser inside with the books. Feel free to take any you want. I do not want them back. Feel free to keep, pass to someone else or return if you prefer to. Let me know if there's an author, title or genre you'd like me to try and include and I'm more than happy to deliver a book/books (within Roslin) to you if you can't get out. If, when you are round and about, you visit Auchendinny, I have a bookshelf in The Glencorse Centre and there is a "little free library" in the Phone Box at the bottom of The Bray (which has been repainted and revamped by Penicuik's Men's Shed), in Bilston there are two book boxes just inside the gate of Bilston Community Garden, there are shelves in Loanhead outside Feet & Co on Engine Road, the phone box in Penicuik, outside The Storehouse, has been painted and kitted out and is now stocking books. The "little free library" in the Phone Box in Rosewell (outside the Parish Church) has been closed due to vandalism but the books are reappearing now. Starting to catch up a little. Updated the shelves at the Glencorse Centre and the Little House, I even managed to go through a bag of books. I only managed a quick check and tidy at Penicuik CC last week, so heading there later today with some new (to them) books.

That just leaves a reminder about the Glencorse Book Group. Our next meetup is on Sunday 13th September from 3pm at The Two Pines Cafe in The Glencorse Centre. If you haven't already, please let me know if you are thinking of coming along so I can adjust the table booking if necessary.

Well, that's all my festival shenanigans over for another year. I saw some great Fringe shows, fabulous ballet at the Festival and, of course, lots of authors at the Book Festival: some new to me, some old favourites. Now, as my friend Helen would say, it's back to old clothes and porridge.

I had a lovely surprise this week when a colleague from over 10 years ago turned up on my doorstep for some children's books. Took a moment or two to place her, but we had a lovely chat. Remember, if you want to see the contents of the White Box and it isn't outside (and let's face it, the weather isn't always helpful) just knock on the door. The box is just inside the door and I'm always happy to let folk have a look through.

I did manage to update the Little House, book shelves at The Glencorse Centre, and the White Box and take in some donations. Generally kept everything ticking over.

Hopefully, from here, everything settles back into a more manageable pattern.

Ah, whenever I'm feeling a bit down, something always comes along to cheer me up.
Just had a knock on the door to look at the White Box of Childrens/YA books. Someone I worked with, briefly, around 14 years ago! Had her son with her wanting a set of books that were there. Delighted to be able to find a new home for the series and even nicer to catch up with someone I've not seen for ages.

I must have upset the FB gods last week as I was unable to post in any groups other than the ones I am admin for. That went for everything, not this little ramble. Don't know if that's over yet so this week may be another time where you only get the page direct.

I didn't contact them because I spent far too much time at the book festival and didn't find the time to sit and sort it all out.

I did manage to update the Little House and book shelves at The Glencorse Centre, added a few books to the White Box and take in some donations. Generally kept everything ticking over.

Only one more week of the Book Festival etc and then things will return to 'normal'.

I've spent far too much time running about the Fringe this week and with the Book Festival starting yesterday (yes I did attend one talk) I'm going to be even more busy. I did manage to top up the shelves at the Glencorse Centre and the Little House, but sadly remiss with the Children's Book Box. It's not been getting outside as much either with the wet weather. Will try and remedy that this week.

It's been a quiet week for me and for the books. Just a few taken at each shelf....but the Edinburgh Book Festival is approaching and I'm about to set up camp there, well it tends to feel like that. I think I've arranged everything so that I can still keep all the various shelves stocked and do my social media posts, but a heads up: if the page is quiet, don't worry, the shelves will be stocked regardless.

I got three bags of books donated this week. I've not been through all of them yet, but if anyone is interested in Simon Scarrow's books about the Roman Army please let me know. I have 13 of them (I think it's the first 13 of the series, will check at some point) and it would be shame to put them out individually if someone would like them. I was also given 41 copies of National Geographic Magazine from the 1990s. Again, if anyone would like them or knows somewhere that would find them useful, let me know.

That's about it. Just for once, I'm delighted to see the rain, despite it meaning the White Box will have to stay indoors.
