Meet Andrew 🧡

If you’ve been into the shop, chances are you’ve already met Andrew. He practically lives here, whether that’s working in the workshop, helping someone choose their next bike or simply having a chat about all things cycling.

After completing his degree in Architecture, Andrew took a year out before deciding to turn his love of cycling into a career. With a little encouragement from Heather, he started out as a bike mechanic in Aberdeen before moving to Edinburgh and continuing to build his experience.

Almost six years later, he’s Cytech qualified and still just as keen to learn and improve. He’s always been someone who likes things done properly, takes pride in the details and believes the best advice starts with taking the time to listen

Running his own business had always been a dream of Andrew’s, and now he gets to do it alongside Heather at Interlaced Cycles.

And on the rare occasion he’s not in the shop? You’ll probably find him out on his gravel bike.

Bike Spotlight | Orbea Terra 🚲

The Terra is one of Andrew's favourites, and as an avid gravel rider himself, it's easy to see why.

What makes the Terra such a good all-rounder is that you don't have to choose between enjoying it on the road and being able to take it onto rougher ground. It's comfortable and capable when the surface gets a bit more challenging, but still feels quick and responsive on tarmac.

There are different models and plenty of ways to make a Terra your own, so it can be built around the kind of riding you actually want to do.

So, why Interlaced Cycles?

There's actually a little more behind the name than you might think.

Firstly, it comes from wheel building. The point where the leading and trailing spokes cross and interlace is a small detail, but one that felt fitting for a bike shop built around doing things properly.

Then there's Inter-Laced Cycles. I.L.C.

Or, as we like to think of it, I Love Cycling.

Which sums us up pretty well.

But the name also has a more personal meaning to us.

Interlaced represents bringing our lives together as husband and wife, and creating something that combines the things we love under one roof. After years of our careers taking us in different directions, we've finally been able to build something together.

So while the name started with cycling, for us, Interlaced has come to mean a whole lot more 🧡

We thought it was about time we introduced ourselves!

We're Andrew and Heather, the husband-and-wife team behind Interlaced Cycles.

We've been together for over five years, and our story started when we met working together in a supermarket. Since then, we've always encouraged each other to chase our ambitions. Andrew followed his dream of working in the cycling industry, while Heather built a career in account management and marketing.

When we moved to Edinburgh in 2022, our careers took us in different directions, but we'd always hoped we'd find a way to work together again.

After getting married last October, life didn't quite go to plan. An unexpected opportunity came our way, and we decided it was time to build something we'd always dreamed of.

That's when the idea for Interlaced Cycles became a reality.

The last few months have been a whirlwind - from ten weeks of renovating the shop to opening our doors and welcoming our first customers. It hasn't always been easy, but it's reminded us why we took the leap.

Being able to work together again is the greatest privilege of our lives. We wanted to create the kind of bike shop we'd love to walk into ourselves, where every conversation starts with understanding the rider. We believe the best advice comes from listening first.
