Sad news coming from Sherwood Forest today. The Major Oak has not produced any leaves and has been declared dead.

Did Robin Hood and his Merry Men really shelter under it? Who knows. As someone who comes from Nottinghamshire it was always a major part of my childhood. The legend is an inspiration for so many films and TV programmes - as well as TV adverts!

It felt fitting to honour such a magnificient specimen of a tree with an excerpt from Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. https://bandleader.biz/product/robin-hood-prince-of-thieves-composer-michael-kamenarranger/

Be forever in our hearts. 🌳

🎺 Bring Your Band’s Dream Piece to Life! 🥁

Have you ever dreamed of performing a piece of music tailored perfectly to your band's unique sound, strengths, and heritage? Commissioning a brand-new work is an unforgettable milestone for any ensemble, but we know the behind-the-scenes logistics can sometimes feel a bit like trying to tune bagpipes in the pouring rain! 🌧️🎶

That’s where Bandleader Publications steps in. We take the guesswork out of the commissioning process by managing the 5 C’s for you:

✨ The 5 C's of Commissioning:

🤝 Consultation: We chat with you to understand your band’s skill level, instrumentation, and the artistic vision or story you want to tell.

✍️ Composer: Finding the right voice is key. We match your ensemble with the perfect composer or arranger from our talented network to bring your ideas to life.

🔒 Copyright: Sorting out permissions—especially for custom arrangements of existing tunes—can be a legal maze. We handle the paperwork so your performance is fully compliant.

📜 Contracts: We protect everyone involved. We draft clear, professional agreements covering deadlines, exclusivity periods, and performance rights so you can focus entirely on the music.

💰 Costs: No hidden surprises here. We work with you to establish transparent budgeting up front, helping you navigate funding, grants, or crowd-sourcing targets.

From the very first spark of inspiration to the moment the beautifully edited and printed sheet music lands on your music stands, we ensure the journey is smooth, professional, and—most importantly—fun!

Goodbye, spring frost—hello, long Scottish summer days! Today marks the official start of meteorological summer, and whilst we are fully ready for the sunshine (or, let’s be honest, the slightly warmer rain), we couldn't think of a better way to bid farewell to the season than with Edvard Grieg’s 'The Last Spring' . 🌸➡️☀️

Originally written as a song and later arranged by Grieg for string orchestra, this hauntingly beautiful melody captures that bittersweet feeling of watching winter melt away into the first blooms of spring. It’s full of nostalgia, warmth, and the kind of soaring phrasing that makes musicians absolutely fall in love with it.

Our new arrangement for wind band ensures that the delicate balance of the original lines translates perfectly to the power and warmth of wind instruments—giving your band that signature, lush sound without losing any of Grieg's original nuance.

Whether you're planning your upcoming summer concert programmes or looking ahead to next season's repertoire, 'Last Spring' is an absolute must-have that audiences and players alike will cherish. 🎶

🎉 Happy National Biscuit Day! 🎉

We all know a long band rehearsal needs the right fuel. 🎶

Whether you're a brass, pipe or wind band, the biscuit break is sacred. We've been wondering: what is the quintessential rehearsal biscuit?

Is it a Chocolate Digestive for a rich, sweet finale?

A Custard Cream for smooth, reliable structure?

Or maybe a Jammy Dodger for those creative, fruity bursts of energy? 🍓

Or what about a Hobnob with a nice sharp cheddar - the snack of choice for the flute section at my band.

What’s the official biscuit of your rehearsal? Do you go for maximum dunking power or maximum flavor?

They say a cluttered workspace is a sign of genius, but even the best Scottish wind bands need a bit of order! 🧹✨

We’re spending the day doing some "spring cleaning" at Bandleader HQ—which for us means more than just dusting. We’re auditing our archives, sharpening our pencils, and ensuring our master scores are as crisp and clear as a Highland morning.

Whether it’s a Dave Knox march or a Kevin Lamb arrangement, we believe the quality of the print should match the quality of the music.

Tell us: How do you keep your sheet music library organized? Folders, cabinets, or "organized chaos"?

On the 9th April 2021, H.R.H Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh died. The tributes to him came from all over the world.

One special tribute was a stunning piece of music by Kane McLean - “The Coyles Of Muick”. It is a highly evocative work featuring wind band, joined for the finale by Bagpipes. The music is also scored so that it can be performed purely by the wind band.

The Coyles of Muick is a beautiful area of Scotland which was a particular favourite walk for Prince Philip and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The music was a worthy winner of a prestigious competition from H.M. Scots Guards and recorded by the Scots Guards Band in 2024 as part of the Royal Corps of Army Music 30th Anniversary celebrations.
