This weekend we celebrated being at Thistle Street for two years!! 🎉And to mark the occasion, we had a launch party for our new Practical Magic Collection✨

I’ve created some brand-new scents, a new tea blend and bath soak, as well as curating a small collection inspired by the 90s classic, just time for the sequel release. This collection is exclusively available at Thistle Street only, and we have created a dedicated display with the help of Duchess Seerra . If you’re not in Edinburgh, most of the collection is also available online, including new scents Amas Veritas and Belladonna, and old favourites Apothecary and Midnight Margaritas!✨🍸🥥🍋‍🟩

Just a reminder, too, that Thistle Street is our bigger and often quieter location. We opened this shop specifically to help ease the congestion at our Candlemaker Row location. If you don’t want to queue, or you want more time to browse, be sure to visit us on Thistle St. It’s a beautiful shop (if I do say so myself!) and we would love to welcome you there 🖤✨

It’s here!🦇 We are so excited to have The Vampire’s Tale Tarot ahead of its official release! We’ve even built a whole collection around it!🩸This stunning deck is from Sasha Graham and is beautifully illustrated by none other than Abigail Larson 😍 You can buy this exclusively at our Thistle Street shop, with a few available in the online shop, while stock lasts.

If you’re in Edinburgh you can also see Sasha’s Fringe show Ghost Stories and Tarot - maybe even get your deck signed while you’re there!

Both of our shops are open every day, and if you’d prefer a little more space and to avoid queues, our Thistle Street shop is the more spacious of the two locations. That’s also where you’ll find our make-your-own spell bottle station and our tarot readers.

Black Moon Botanica is 7 years old today!! 🎂🎉🥂🍾✨Swipe for the before and after 👀

I opened Black Moon Botanica on 15th May 2019, with the intention of creating an authentic witches shop - the kind of shop that I wanted as a young witch. I’ve been practicing witchcraft since 1991, working with plants and studying astrology, with a lifelong interest in occult and esoteric practices. The shop idea came to fruition as a way to offer my crafts and knowledge to the witches of Edinburgh. But more importantly, I wanted to help create and support an active community for those interested in learning about the occult and exploring the many aspects of witchcraft.

7 years ago, the shop was just me on Candlemaker Row. Now, we have two locations in Edinburgh, one in Amsterdam, and international online shops! I make and run everything with my husband Pieter-Paul, and we have a team of truly amazing shop witches that help make it all possible. I am so grateful for all of our amazing customers, many of which I’m now happy to call friends. And even more exciting… The original painting is on display in-store throughout Beltane! ✨ Lucy is offering the original piece for sale, so come and experience it in person.

🌱Spring is here, and so is our Ostara Collection, with the return of our much-loved Ostara scent, in both perfume oils and wax melts. Reminiscent of springtime flowers, this scent captures delicate bluebells and daffodils with oils of jasmine, hyacinth, freesia, mixed with a base of gardenia and amber. This beautifully fresh and floral blend is ideal for any Ostara rituals to celebrate the Vernal Equinox next week.

🌑 Farewell to New Moon 🌑

We have some sad news.

Due to upcoming IFRA amendments, we would need to reformulate our New Moon scent so significantly that it just wouldn’t smell the same. Rather than change it beyond recognition, we’ve made the difficult decision to discontinue it.

The stock currently available in the shops and online are the final batches. Once they’re gone, they’re really gone. This will affect New Moon perfume, candles, wax melts and hand wash. We’re so sad to see it leave our shelves - it’s been with us since day one.

If New Moon is part of your rituals, now is the time to stock up before it slips into the dark for good🌑✨

As this rollercoaster of a year comes to a close, we want to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who’s supported Black Moon Botanica - by visiting our shops, ordering online, attending events and retreats, or being part of our wider community - we’re deeply grateful. Your support makes this work possible, and we don’t take that for granted.

This year has held both challenges and growth, and we’re heading into 2026 with some exciting plans and big changes taking shape behind the scenes.
