These are just some of the wonderful independent makers, artists, designers and wholesalers whose products fill the shelves of our little gift shop.
When you support a small shop like ours, your money doesn't simply disappear into the pocket of a huge corporation. It helps keep a whole chain of small businesses going. It supports the artist designing the cards, the maker creating the jewellery, the family business pouring the candles, the illustrator bringing their artwork to life, and the tiny teams working away behind the scenes.
Small businesses depend on one another.
If independent shops like ours struggle and disappear, the smaller makers and artisans we buy from lose places to sell their creations too. And slowly, the choice becomes smaller. The shelves become more uniform. The unusual, quirky, locally made and beautifully individual things become harder to find.
Eventually, we are left with the same big companies, selling the same things, everywhere.
We know times are difficult, and every penny matters. But when you choose to support a small business, you are doing so much more than buying a product.
You are helping keep someone's dream alive.
You are supporting creativity, individuality and real people.
And you are helping make sure our towns and high streets don't lose the little businesses that give them their character.
