Wow! This quote spoke to me!! No more changing your name to suit the English tongue. At school I used to hate my name being called for the register because I knew the teachers wouldn't get it right and it would embarrass me. I used to change my name to make it easier for people to say, and I would wish I had a different name that was easier to pronounce.

Now I'm so grateful for my Nigerian name: Jolaade.

I will no longer be changing it in any way at all! I get the warmest feeling when someone that doesn't know me makes an effort to say it properly. Thank you so much ☺️

There are a range of things that can cause children to disengage with reading, such as reading difficulties and a fear of being made fun of over reading preferences.

The first step to overcoming the assumption that your child simply hates to read is to identify the cause.

- Are the books your child is reading too boring or too challenging for them?

-At what point in the book does your child give up and become frustrated?

Solutions might be allowing them to choose their own books based on their interests, choosing books together with you guiding them according to their reading level, or coupling reading with hands‑on activities, like following a recipe to create their favourite dishes or following the written clues of a scavenger hunt.

It’s been really hard to watch what’s going on, our news feeds are full of updates. It’s not normal to be able to watch someone be killed by law enforcement, but to see it over and over again is certainly TRAUMA.

- How are you discussing these topics with your children?

- How are you supporting friends and family who are reading about these atrocities each day?

- How are you taking care of you?

April is Stress Awareness Month!

It’s been a tough year for us all since COVID-19 took its grip on the globe. Though I think children are more resilient than we think, I’m sure some of our little ones really struggled to adjust to the lockdown restrictions and are adjusting again now that restrictions are gradually easing. The change can’t be easy.

Check out a few tips we have on keeping your little ones as calm and as stress-free as possible as we continue to face whatever the pandemic throws at us.
