Scabious season has arrived. πŸ’œ

It's one of those flowers I wait for every year. The bees seem to know exactly when it's ready too.

This week the field is filling with soft pink, lavender blue and rich purple scabious, while the giant creamy-yellow scabious is beginning to tower above everything else. They add movement, texture and that relaxed cottage garden feel I love.

The flower field changes almost daily at this time of year, especially after the recent heatwave. One week it's poppies and foxgloves, the next it's scabious taking centre stage.

It's a lovely reminder that no two weeks are ever quite the same.

Last week's poppies and nigella, before three record-breaking hot days transformed the field.
Flower farming has a way of reminding you to pay attention. The season moves so quickly that it's easy to miss these little moments if you're always thinking about the next job.

The poppies were glowing scarlet, the nigella pods were swelling, and the grasses were catching the evening light. A few days later, the field had already started to change, with sea lavender, feverfew, scabious and so many new textures stepping into their place.

That's what I love about growing seasonal flowers in Shropshire. Every week tells a slightly different story, shaped by the weather, the soil and a bit of luck.

I'm glad I stopped to take these photos.

Ribwort plantain seedheads β€” lovely brown, upright texture with tiny pale flowers at the tips. Great for meadow-style work.

Wild grasses β€” soft, seedy, airy stems for meadow buckets and natural arrangements.

Sorrel seedheads β€” tall, branching stems with green and rusty seed detail for a wild, textured look.

Fine umbel seedheads β€” cow parsley, delicate, airy detail for adding height, movement and a hedgerow feel

Honesty seedheads β€” fresh green coin-shaped pods, useful for light, papery texture and soft movement.

Mixed field textures β€” sorrel, plantain and soft green seedheads coming through together.

Plantain seedheads and grasses β€” useful wild texture for natural arrangements, buckets and looser seasonal work.
