One of the things we love most about being an independent shop is that it isn’t *just* about selling things.

The customers we’ve got to know over the years.

After more than **20 years in Ely**, we’ve helped generations of families enjoy their pets and hobbies, and that’s something we’re incredibly proud of.

And when it comes to your animals, **there really is no such thing as a silly question.**

That advice comes from years of experience, training and learning about the animals and products we sell.

So if we’ve spent time helping you work out exactly what you need, please don’t photograph the product and then go home and order it online for a couple of pounds less. 😂🙈

We WANT you to ask us questions. Good advice is a huge part of what a proper independent aquatic and reptile shop should provide.

But the reason we can stand behind that counter and give that advice for free is because our customers **also choose to shop with us.** ❤️

You can buy products from lots of places.

What you don’t always get is a familiar face, someone who knows your tank or your animal, someone you can come back to when something isn't quite right, and someone who genuinely wants to help you get it right.

We wanted to share something a little different today…

Times are tough for small independent businesses. Costs have risen enormously, people understandably have less disposable income, and online shopping has changed the way we all buy things.

We completely understand that everyone has a budget — we do too! ❤️

But we'd like to ask you to think about what you're supporting when you choose where to spend your money.

At **Ely Aquatics & Reptiles**, we've been here for **23 years**.

For 23 years we've tested your aquarium water, helped you choose the right fish, talked you through poorly fish, helped set up tanks, advised on reptiles, answered endless questions, helped troubleshoot filters and heaters, and hopefully been somewhere you know you can come when you're not quite sure what to do.

And that advice is very often completely free.

One of the hardest things for independent shops is spending time helping someone choose exactly what they need, only to find that once they have the information, the product is ordered online because it's a few pounds cheaper.

We understand why it happens.

But those few pounds make a difference.

⭐ They help pay the electricity that keeps our aquariums warm and filtered.

⭐ They help us keep knowledgeable people here to answer your questions.

⭐ They allow us to stock the things you need **today**, rather than waiting for a delivery.

⭐ And ultimately, they help keep an independent shop in Ely.

There's another advantage too.

If you buy your heater, filter, air pump or other essential equipment from us and something goes wrong, **you've got somewhere local to bring it back to and people who will do their best to help**.

When you've got livestock relying on that equipment, that can matter enormously.

🦎💛 **BABY LEOPARD GECKOS – AVAILABLE FROM THIS SATURDAY!** 💛🦎

Our first little batch of home-bred baby Leopard Geckos are growing beautifully and will be ready to find their new homes **from this Saturday onwards!** 🥰

Leopard Geckos can make fantastic pets, but like all reptiles they need the correct environment, heating, lighting and diet to stay healthy – and they can live for **up to 20 years**, so they’re a long-term commitment.

🏡 **A quick guide to Leopard Gecko care:**

🦎 **Housing** – Adult Leopard Geckos require a minimum vivarium size of approximately **90cm x 30cm x 40cm**, although bigger is always better. They are best housed **individually**.

🌡️ **Heating** – They need a temperature gradient so they can move between warmer and cooler areas. The basking area should be around **28–30°C**, with the cool end around **24–26°C**. All heat sources must be controlled by a suitable thermostat.

☀️ **UVB & lighting** – Leopard Geckos benefit from appropriate low-level **UVB lighting**, alongside a normal day/night cycle.

💧 **Humidity & hides** – They generally require a dry environment of around **30–40% humidity**, but must also have access to a **humid hide** to help with shedding, plus plenty of other secure hiding places.

🦗 **Feeding** – Leopard Geckos eat live insects such as appropriately sized crickets, locusts and calciworms. Youngsters should be fed daily. Livefood should be properly gut-loaded and supplemented with the correct calcium and vitamins.

💦 Fresh, clean water should always be available.

🌿 Enrichment is important too! Hides, rocks, low sturdy branches and different textures give them opportunities to explore and display natural behaviours.

📚 **Please research before you buy.** We are always happy to talk you through their care and help you choose everything you need.

⚠️ **Proof of a suitable, fully functioning setup will be required before purchasing one of our Leopard Geckos if you are not purchasing the setup from ourselves.**

We can supply the correct housing, heating, thermostat, UVB, hides, décor, supplements and livefood – and most importantly, the advice to get you started properly. 💚
