🌞🐠 HOT WEATHER & YOUR AQUARIUM 🐠🌞

With the warmer weather arriving, here's a quick guide to keeping your fish safe during a heatwave.

✅ DO:

💨 Increase oxygen levels

* Add an airstone or increase surface movement.
* Warm water holds less oxygen, so extra aeration is important.

🌡 Keep an eye on temperature

* Use a thermometer and check tanks regularly.

🪟 Close curtains or blinds

* Keep direct sunlight off the aquarium.

💡 Turn lights off if needed

* Fish won't mind a shorter day and it helps reduce extra heat.

🧊 Use a fan across the water surface

* Aquarium cooling fans or even a household fan can help lower temperatures.

💧 Top up evaporated water

* Evaporation increases during hot weather.

💦 Carry out small water changes with slightly cooler water if necessary

* Gradual changes are safest.

🚨 In an emergency

* Float a sealed bottle of frozen water in the tank to help bring temperatures down slowly.

❌ DON'T:

❌ Add ice directly to the aquarium.
❌ Suddenly drop the temperature.
❌ Change more than necessary.
❌ Place the tank in direct sunlight.
❌ Switch off filters or air pumps.
❌ Unplug the heater – it won't turn on unless needed and temperatures can drop quickly overnight.

🐠 Remember: Often it's lack of oxygen, rather than the temperature itself, that causes fish the most stress.

Need advice, an extra air pump, cooling fan or just reassurance? Pop in and see us – we're always happy to help! 😊

We love hatching and raising our own youngsters and it's lovely to see how excited everyone gets too. Our first crested gecko baby this year was snapped up within a week of hatching ❤️
(On hold/reserved in store until it’s old enough to go)
Now… who's placing bets on what will hatch first? 👀🥚🐣
