19 years ago and I still remember hearing about the attack and the shock waves that travelled through the community.

It’s 19 years ago today that the attack took place in Stubbylee Park, Bacup, that would take Sophie’s life 13 days later.

Today, we send our love to Sophie’s family and friends and to everyone who continues to love and remember her. Sophie is not simply a figurehead or a banner we march behind. She was a person, a daughter, a friend, a sister and a young woman who should still be here with us today. We grieve the life that was taken from her.

At Sophie’s murder trial, the attack was described as “feral thuggery” by His Honour Judge Anthony Russell QC. Many of us may stand out as different within our communities but every one of us has the right to be who we are and to live our lives free from fear and violence.

We must continue to stand together and unite against hatred, prejudice and violence in all our communities. Because when one of us is targeted for being different, the impact reaches far beyond one person. If we don’t stand together, it rebounds on us all.

Today, we remember Sophie. And we renew our commitment to continue the work that her mum Sylvia started - to Stamp Out Prejudice, Hatred and Intolerance Everywhere.

For Sophie, always.

We’ve had a mobile phone handed in to the store. It was found on the bench under the tree at Ely High Street Passage. We’re trying to answer it to help you locate it but signal is bad and we don’t think you can hear us!

Spotted in Ely, Cambridgeshire and Visit Ely if anyone is looking for a phone please tell them to get in touch.

What's on our mind? That it's far too early for a Sunday! We have our Ely Pride hats on today and are heading down to Ely Aquafest. Do stop by the Pride stall and say hi (and support the work these amazing folks do). See you there!

Sorry folks but we will be closed on Friday 26th June. The shop has reached this glorious summer temperature today, and we have no way of cooling it down. Tomorrow is shaping up to be even hotter. We shall be back on Saturday when it's looking a little more bearable.

Positively Magickal and Positively Magickal Events stand with you. You are safe with us.

Ely Pride stands firmly with our trans siblings today and always 🏳️‍⚧️

We have taken a few days to make a public post whilst we think about what we can do as a charity.

The message we need you to hear is this:
We do not support the Equality and Human Rights Commissions updated quidance, made on 21st Mav 2026, following the Supreme Court ruling made in April of 2025.

We believe this decision risks further marginalising trans people and creating fear, exclusion, and uncertainty in evervday life.

We held a protest last year following the initial Supreme Court ruling, and were blown away by the support that was shown by our community both here in Ely, and from further afield too.

As a charity we will continue to be a safe space for our trans siblings. We will continue to fight for the rights of all LGBTQIA+ people in our community and further afield and will continue to work within Ely to try to make changes that really matter for people's acceptance and safety.

TRANS RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS!

You belong; in society, in our community, in our spaces, in our future. We will continue to celebrate, support, and stand beside you.

To better support the trans community, Ely Pride has created a new group named Ely Harbour, which meets on a monthlv basis. Ely Harbour provides a safe space to meet, chat and support each other. Attendees are welcome to bring some food to share, however this is entirely optional.
