I took on a very special commission this month, a 21st birthday gift for a chess mad family friend. This wasn't just about carving pieces; it was about preserving family history.
The "light" pieces are crafted from Irish Oak salvaged from his great grandfather’s barn. The "dark" pieces are made from Bog Oak found by his father on their family farm.
It was a time-consuming labor of love, but knowing this set will be kept for a lifetime made every hour worth it. Happy 21st Michael!
