🐠 Fish Care Sunday: Common Tropical Fish Diseases 💧

Even the healthiest aquarium can sometimes have a poorly fish, so here are a few common problems to keep an eye out for 👀

⚪ White Spot (Ich)
Small white spots, often like grains of salt, on the body and fins. Fish may also scratch against decorations.
➡️ Treat with an appropriate white spot medication and check your water quality.

🦠 Fin Rot
Fins can look ragged, frayed or discoloured.
➡️ Good water quality is key, alongside a suitable fin-rot treatment if needed.

🔴 Ulcers / Open Sores
Red patches or open wounds can appear on the body.
➡️ Check water parameters, reduce stress and use an appropriate treatment.

🪱 Flukes & Parasites
Fish may flick or scratch, breathe heavily, lose weight or have clamped fins.
➡️ An anti-parasite or anti-fluke treatment may be needed.

💧 The most important thing?

A lot of fish health problems are linked to poor or unstable water quality, so regular testing, good filtration and water changes are your first line of defence.

🐟 PLECO SPOTLIGHT! 🌿

From bold patterns to golden spots, Plecos are a great way to add some character to the lower levels of your aquarium — and we’ve got a great selection in stock!

🌿 Environment: Plecos appreciate good filtration, clean water and plenty of rockwork, wood and hiding places to explore. Make sure you check the adult size and requirements of your chosen species when planning your tank.

🍽️ Feeding: Despite their reputation as algae eaters, Plecos need a varied diet. Algae wafers, sinking foods and suitable vegetables can all be included, with some species also benefiting from additional protein.

😄 Temperament: Most are peaceful and fairly relaxed, making them suitable for many community aquariums when kept with appropriate tank mates.

With so many different colours and patterns, there’s a Pleco for just about every taste! 🐟🌿

Just a quick heads-up that Clarke Aquatics will be CLOSED on the following dates while our team attends industry trade shows:

🔴 Wednesday 9th September – CLOSED
🔴 Monday 14th September – CLOSED

We’re heading to the shows to meet suppliers, discover new products, livestock and equipment, and hopefully find plenty of exciting new additions to bring back to Clarke Aquatics! 🐠🪸🐟

✅ All other days we’ll be OPEN as normal.

We apologise for any inconvenience and really appreciate your understanding. These events help us keep improving the shop, expanding our ranges and bringing you even more choice.
