My first season of dabbling in match fishing came to an end at the weekend with a win on my first visit to Summerhayes Fishery in Somerset. Fishing method feeder with 2mm coppens and a mixture of 5mm wafters did the business! Now time to focus on my winter carp syndicate and predator fishing!

2nd place at the Avalon Fisheries Saturday Open was a good result. It fished hard with 40mph gusts but a good weight was put together. Bomb and pellet with Aquastim pellets feed over the top accounted for most of the fish but I did manage a few down the edge on the top kit +1. 👍👍

Avalon Open Results (6/7/24)

Overall
Dan Squires 161.00 peg 31
Rob Champness 100.7 peg 41

Silvers
Pete Z 19.12 peg 32 won Gold peg
Ian Browncey 15.12 peg 39

Thanks to those who participated. We’ll be back again next week.

Recently I've been getting into a bit of match fishing! A change up for me but I'm quite enjoying it! I fished The Sedges Wednesday Open a few weeks back and came 2nd for silvers. It's was method feeders with 4mm pellet fed over the top that did the damage! Only lost out on top stop by a few ounces!

This Wednesday's open match on Brick Lake and Tile Lake was fished by 22 anglers.
1st Dave Chidzoy 136lb peg 20 Brick Lake
2nd Tony Day 134lb 13oz peg 40 Tile Lake
3rd Keith Clapp 124lb 4oz peg 35 Tile Lake
1st Silvers Bill Hopping 34lb 4oz peg 33 Tile Lake
Next Wednesday's open match 26th June is on Tile Lake. Ring 07980128404 to book in or just turn up for a 9 o'clock draw.

to warmer times and a true red letter session!

This was my first trip to an infamous water in Surrey in search of a PB crucian! If I am honest I didnt know what my PB was but it would have been around the 1lb and a half mark. I hadn't fished for or caught a crucian in about 15 years and was really keen to start targeting them and on this water not only was there the very realistic chance of beating my PB but there is an outside chance of catching a British Record!

Anyway, I arrived and walked the lake and found fish showing in a neglected corner. After finding a clear area in the w**d I baited with a few spombs of Dynamite Baits F1 sweet micro pellet, Frenzied h**p and F1 corn and fished method feeders with 6mm wafters as hookbaits. What followed was beyond my wildest dreams! 8 crucians with the smallest being 2lb 12oz, 6 being over 3lb and a new PB of 3lb 11oz! A truly massive fish that got me front cover of the Angling Times!

I cannot wait to get back there!!

A few from a recent(ish) session. When fishing this particular venue in the spring and summer I like to fish with methods and tackle that will enable me to fosh for tench but also be able to land the carp that regularly pay you a visit. I fosh with 2.25lb TC rods, 12lb mainline and a size 10 hook. This is a great compromise between being able to enjoy the tench but also land the carp in w**dy situations.

Hello all!

I haven't posted on here in while as I mainly post on my Instagram page but with the arrival of our second child recently fishing has been very limited of late. However, I did manage to get out for a day session at Durleigh Reservoir and managed 4 fish with a 27lb 8oz mirror and a 27lb 11oz common being the best of the bunch! Long range fishing isn't something I do much of but catching fish at 100 yards plus is pretty fun!

I recently fished the National Tench Championships at Oxlease Lake on the Linear complex.

I got a tough draw coming out 26th of 32 anglers and despite not catching any tench, I did manage to land 6 carp with another 2 lost. The 6 fish included mirrors of 33lb 12oz and 30lb 6oz and a common of 20lb.

Fishing with 1.5lb TC rods, 10lb mainline and 10lb fluro hooklinks in a corner of the lake with a few snags proved fun and games with the 2 losses being as a result of hooklinks parting as fish tried to bury into the snags.

I may not have caught any tench at a tench championship but I definitely went home happy!
