Taking stock to market or the abattoir this autumn? Check your VAN before you travel. 🐑
If you need a Veterinary Attestation Number (VAN), check that yours is still valid. The last four digits show the month and year it expires; it remains valid until the last day of that month.
If your VAN has expired or is due to expire soon, an eligible Animal Health and Welfare Pathway visit may cover the visit and VAN fee. You can start a new claim once 10 months have passed since your previous claim began.
For sheep, the first part of the Pathway includes a wormer treatment check on 15 lambs. If they’ve been wormed in the last four weeks, that check can be arranged later, when there is a sufficient worm burden to test.
Farms covered by a recognised farm assurance scheme do not need a VAN for this purpose.
