At Whipton....Next week we will be learning all about superheroes. Our book of the week will be There’s a Superhero in Your Book by Tom Fletcher, our number of the week will be 10, and our Makaton sign will be superhero. Throughout the week we will explore what it means to be a superhero, with lots of rescuing, helping others, and saving the day!

At the creative table, the children will design and decorate their own superhero masks and capes. Once they are ready, we will take our superhero creations outside, where the children can practise their superhero moves and act out imaginative rescue missions together. Our small world area will become a superhero rescue zone, complete with characters, buildings, and vehicles.

During focus time, we will continue to develop our fine motor skills by practising scissor control, making snips, and cutting along simple lines. The children will also enjoy superhero‑themed colour games, matching activities, and mark‑making opportunities such as designing badges and logos.

Our Shark in the Park theme was a wonderful success, and the children fully immersed themselves in the story and its playful surprises. They showed great enthusiasm during group reading, joining in with repeated refrains and predicting what might appear through Timothy Pope’s telescope next.

At Budlake....Next week our book of the week will be sharing a shell by Julia Donaldson, our word and sign of the week will be share and our focus of the week will be sharing and turn taking in the environment. During adult led learning we will be making sea shell fans using paper folded backwards and forwards with our own crayon decorations added to our shells. We will be learning how to fold the paper each way and having a go at using variety of one-handed tools such as crayons, paint brushes and scissors to help us strengthen our fine motor movements. Outside we will be exploring an under the sea water tray with exciting objects to explore such as sea w**d, shells and sea animals, we will be exploring the feel of sea w**d and using descriptive language to describe what we see, smell and feel. In our continuous provision we will be exploring turn taking and sharing whilst exploring a range of resources and activities such as balls games, parachute games and small world toys.

For letters and sounds next week we will be taking part in activities such as drum outdoors this is where we explore our environment using sticks to explore the sounds different outdoor objects make such as fencing, slides and the floor. We will be talking about the types of sounds these objects make such as loud sounds, hollow sounds or deep sounds.

This week our story was whatever next and we learnt about all things space, we took a walk on the moon wearing our very own space boots where we imagined that we were in a zero-gravity environment and taking our first steps on the moon we talked about how we could get to the moon and then made our very own rockets using boxes just like in the story. outside we loved playing in the galaxy water and strengthened our fine motor movements using tweezers to pick out pom poms and collect them in bowls.

At Whipton....Next week our book of the week will be Shark in the Park, and the children will be learning the Makaton sign for Shark while exploring the number 8 through counting games and creative activities.

Throughout the week, the children will be diving into an exciting under‑the‑sea theme, inspired by Timothy Pope and the creatures he thinks he can see through his telescope.

The children will be encouraged to talk about sea animals, ocean habitats, and what they think might be hiding “in the park” as they explore the story.

Our focus activities will include designing and decorating telescopes, just like Timothy uses in the book, using tubes, stickers, coloured cellophane, and collage materials. The children will also explore an under‑the‑sea small‑world tray filled with shells, sea creatures, blue sensory textures, and natural materials to inspire imaginative play and storytelling.

They will create shark and fish crafts, experiment with paint and collage, and make octopuses with eight legs to support their understanding of the number 8. We will also work together to build a bright under‑the‑sea display, where the children can add their own sea creatures, bubbles, and seaw**d while talking about what they might spot through their telescopes.

Last week we loved learning about The Three Little Pigs. The children were really engaged with the story, and by the end of the week many were confidently joining in with the key phrases. They enjoyed building houses from different materials, and retelling the story using puppets

At Whipton....This week, our Whipton babies have been exploring colours! We have been singing “I can sing a rainbow” and learning the Makaton signs for each colour during group time. We have explored many different mediums in our creative play- we used felt tip pens and pencils on paper rolled along the floor to practice and strengthen our finger grips, sifted through colourful oats and buried our hands underneath a big pile to explore the concept of object permeance, and used our hands, cotton buds, rollers and brushes to spread our paint all over our paper. Alongside all of our lovely, messy activities, we have continued practicing and developing our personal and self-care routines in the Baby Room, focusing on mealtimes- using cutlery, wiping our faces and spreading butter, jam or marmite on our snacks!
