I'm particularly pleased with this chair.

A chair, like a pair of shoes, needs to fit the user. If it doesn't, there'll be discomfort - pain - injury.

This client has amongst other issues. a very short body.

Having the chair built with a seat and backrest that fits them was the easy bit. Getting the armrests right was more difficult.

A standard armrest is far too high. This pushes the users shoulders up, which stresses the neck and thoracic spine. Neck pain is often caused by a poor armrest, it's never the neck rest of a chair.

So I asked the manufacturer, Ergochair to supply a special bracket which lowers the height of the armrest, so when this client sits down, their elbows are going to be supported, not stressed.

Let's be honest, if you're back hurts while you're working, and you're otherwise healthy: It's your fault.

8 hours is a very long time to be sat in the same position in the same chair, so invest a little time getting it right.

You chair should fit you. I don't care if you're short, wide, tall or skinny, if the chair is not the right size for you, it's going to cause discomfort, pain and if not sorted - injury.

Most generic office chairs are designed to fit most people. So that's people between about 5'8 & 6' tall, weighing about 10 to 15 stone. That's not to say that anything that fits you is good, but it's a good start.

It's just like shoes. If they don't fit, they're going to hurt. If they do fit, they may still be rubbish.

Invest some time visiting a chair shop. At Backworld I have over 20 different chair to try. Not only 'normal' chairs like you've sat on for years, but active chairs that incorporate movement to improve health. Saddle stools and sit stand desks.

A trip to Plymouth today with another of our best sellers - an Ergochair Adapt 600.

This is for a lady who badly broke her ankle earlier in the year and has been struggling to work all day. She needs to be able to elevate her leg and had been sitting in a generic office chair with her foot on a cushion on a stool. But it just wasn't working.

The Ergochair has a sophisticated knee tilt mechanism, a benefit for anyone but the increased movement in her ankle was a real benefit for this client. The back rest reclines separate to the seat so she can remain comfortable when she elevates he leg on the leg rest. This particular leg rest is hydraulically height adjustable, and tilts and articulates so Helen can always find the right position.

As with any injury, when a body part is out of action, other problems creep in as they compensate. Helen really noticed how much the support from the 4D adjustable armrests relieved her neck - exactly what they're supposed to do!

Of course on paper this isn't a cheap solution, and some people might suggest that for a temporary measure a cheaper solution would have been more appropriate. This is of course utter bo****ks. She's a valuable member of staff who deserves to the support of her employer while she recovers. And this equipment will last many years and continue to provide support long after the injury has healed.

Oh wow!

As we don't have a fancy showroom chairs of this type are not a common sight here at Backworld towers.

I delivered this beautiful, not to mention exceptionally comfortable Conform Bravo chair to Dorset recently.

The client couldn't decide what leather he wanted it covered in so I took the swatches to him so he could see the different colours and finishes in the room.

And covered in Grizzly nature it looked fantastic in his lounge and complimented his existing furniture beautifully.

A lot of "Swedish" furniture is mass produced in huge factories in China and around the world.
