We are on the brink of a marine heatwave .
Sea surface temperatures in the U.K. during summer tend to hover around 15 to 18°C .

We are currently seeing surface temps 4-5C warmer and it’s only the first week of July .

This could have a devastating impact to our fragile marine ecosystems .

We’ve already seen the invasion of the Mediterranean octopus, and it’s not just the U.K. , northern France and Belgium crab fishermen are also hauling in vast numbers of them .

They are eating out crab populations .

What the consequences of a severe marine heatwave will be is unknown , but it’s likely to see mass mortalities to certain types of sealife .

Water holds onto heat more efficiently than land and releases it at a slower rate .
We are in our third heatwave this year , it is likely we will see more before the end of summer .

Here’s hoping our diverse marine life can cope .

We are coming up to blue green algae time too , so that’s another thing to be concerned about .

🌊 We are seeing unprecedented heat records this week, which fit right into the long-term warming trend linked to climate change.
🌊 By backing The Seahorse Trust, Sea Adora Exmouth is investing directly in marine conservation. The Seahorse Trust is actively preserving underwater ecosystems that are our best natural defense against a warming planet
🌊 The Seahorse Trust fights climate change by protecting and restoring UK seagrass meadows, which store carbon 35 times faster than rainforests.
🌊 They install innovative eco-moorings to stop boat anchors from ripping up the seabed and releasing trapped greenhouse gases. By securing Studland Bay as a Marine Conservation Zone, they legally banned destructive trawling.
🌊 Additionally, they successfully block local fossil fuel drilling, keeping immense amounts of blue carbon safely locked away.
