Test Knitting Open
**limited sizes left** but as important to test!

As part of my upcoming book I currently have a further two designs ready to be tested and I need your help.

First up is the “All Hands Ashore” cable slipover & jumper. Secound is the “Netloft” waistcoat and cardigan which has an option of two necklines.

Test knitting begins 1st & 6th of September, if you are interested in joining, what is always a really fun experience; comment “As the sheep intended” below and I will send you the link.

A little peak into the design and making of my Crab Pots Gansey, one of the designs to be featured in my book I have been working on “As The Sheep Intended”. 14 gender neutral designs celebrating yarn in the colours the sheep intended and inspired by the beautiful coast I call home- Cornwall.

Bottom up is great! Tips and Tricks for the perfect fit!
Decreases are always neater than increase (in my opinion) and many bottom up jumpers have this advantage! If you like a pattern you shouldn’t be put off of worst not knit it because it’s a bottom up construction. Many people are nervous as they can’t try it on as they go. But with some simple tricks and advice you can get the perfect fit!

Take measurements.
-Measure a jumper you like the length of.
-Measure from the back neck to the bottom.
-Measure from the underarm to the bottom.
-Work out the yoke length from your pattern (everything above the underarm).
-Back neck to hem, minus the yoke length = body length to knit below the underarm (including ribbing).
-If you cannot work out the yoke length, simply knit the same underarm to hem length as your favourite jumper.

Swatching and blocking.
-Knit a large gauge swatch, not just 10 × 10 cm.
-Block your swatch before measuring.
-If your pattern is worked both flat and in the round, knit a swatch using both methods(your flat and in the round gauge can be different).
-Before starting the yoke, wash and block the jumper to the underarm. Check the length against your measurements before carrying on.

Still nervous?
-Use a provisional cast on with waste yarn.
-Skip the ribbing and start with the body.
-Follow the pattern, check the length as you go against your measurements.
-Once finished, remove the provisional cast on.
-Knit the ribbing last.
This lets you add or remove a few centimetres of length if needed.

Other useful tips for bottom up:
If you are knitting a jumper in the round and dread casting on a large number of stitches for the ribbing, cast on half the stitches and knit the ribbing in two sections. Join the two sections together and continue working in the round. You can mattress stitch the seam later or leave it as a split hem.

If it’s all gone wrong you have two options- frog or knitting surgery with a lot of Kitchener stitches! But follow the advice above and you shouldn’t need to. Not all this advice will work for all specific patterns.

Down by the harbour or sitting on the shores of small islands, we have three retreats where knitting intertwines with the essence of exploration. Delve into immersive workshops, meet the sheep, visit the only worsted spinning mill in Wales, and learn all about traditional British knitting. Embark on windy strolls along the Cornish or Welsh coast and, if you’re feeling adventurous, take a cold-water dip in the sea. Unwind between walks and workshops, with time spent knitting by the fire or exploring the Isles of Scilly.

Our goal is to create a fun, creative, fulfilling, and inclusive space for knitters and crafters to enjoy. These are retreats for those who want to spend time with their craft but also get outside and explore. Expect an 8 km hike, visits to farmland, mills and countryside, and a deeper look at how fibre is transformed into yarn. There will be plenty of time to sit and knit, but we’ll also be getting up and active.

We have three upcoming retreats: one this winter, hosted in the harbour town of Mousehole, and, for the first time ever, next spring we will sail to the Isles of Scilly, as well as taking a trip ourselves to vist Garthenor in Wales.
All these retreats are destined to be extra special just for you. So why not treat yourself!

It is that time again! Last years advents sold out in less than 2 days, as with most things here at Raw Wool we wish we could produce more for you (but also isn’t that what makes it extra special). To avoid missing out please do head over to the website and pre-order yours sooner than later.

This year’s advents will be divided into 4 weeks leading up to the end of December. Each week there will be a pattern, 100 grams of yarn and Cornish gifts, and bespoke items.

Raw Wool Company 2026 Advent Box

Like our advents last year we are bringing together a collection of beautiful yarns in the colours the sheep intended alongside Cornish gifts, patterns and more.

So, what can you expect? A bespoke, joyful box filled with a whole month’s worth of yummy yarn, collaborations with talented, local makers, tactile goodies, patterns, and plenty more. We sold out in an astonishingly short time last year, and as these are limited edition, we have a feeling they’ll be in high demand again this time around. Make sure you don’t miss out!

We wanted to create a yarn advent experience unlike any other. Traditionally, a yarn advent follows a colour theme set by a dye maker. However, as our colours are “in the colours the sheep intended” and we don’t dye our yarn, we have explored bringing together quality, sustainability, and luxury items to make our box even more special and exciting.

This years advents will be divided into 4 weeks leading up to the end of December. Each week there will be a pattern, 100 grams of yarn and at least one or more Cornish gift.
