Bawaajige stands for "she/he has dreams". It comes from the Ojibwe tribes language, which is where dream catchers originated from. My mum gave me her dreamcatcher many years ago and since then I've had a fascination with them. I first had a go at making one about ten years ago, it's safe to say it didn't look much like a dreamcatcher, but we've got to start somewhere right? ;) I then went into it
a little deeper and learnt how to properly weave the webbing in the centre and read up a bit about their history. Over the years I have chopped and changed, working with different materials until finding my style a few years ago. Now, every dreamcatcher I create uses a willow hoop that I weave myself using buff willow, and is then adorned with an array of bits and bobs, trinkets and thingymabobs. I try and use recycled where possible, but it's always natural. I stopped using feathers to decorate my pieces due to not being able to source any in the UK that were guarenteed to be cruelty free. I do however use the odd one or two if I happen to find some particularly beautiful ones and I can snap it up before my 2 year old ;)
Thanks so much for reading if you got this far! Should you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch.
