Have you ever wondered what goes into running a craft workshop? 😊

It probably looks like it’s a case of turning up for a couple of hours, getting the materials out and having a crafty time.

There’s quite a lot that goes on behind the scenes!

There is the planning stage and making a sample (most of you know, I make a 95% of my own patterns), then I need to make duplicate copies of the patterns.

There is sourcing and buying materials, (Fabric, cotton, embroidery thread, glue sticks, card, safety eyes, pencils, pens… the list goes on)preparing everything, answering messages and questions, sending emails, chasing people up etc.

And then there’s the machines and equipment to buy and maintain, things that break and need replacing, insurance, electricity, heating, tools, consumables and all the little bits and pieces.

I sanitise the room make sure it’s clean and cosy.

I just thought it might be nice to share a little glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes.

I’m so lucky to have a husband that’s always up for some craft time. 😍😍

We sat outside for an hour decoupaging plant pots.
It’s so relaxing 😎

I love Richard’s monster pot SO much.

Tomorrow, we will varnish them.

He is gifting it for a birthday 🎈

Look at these beautifully painted and decoupaged plant pots made by Kahlan and Ava from Craft Club.

This was both their first time of decoupage and think they done a fabulous job!

We were so lucky with the weather on Saturday to allow the different stages to dry and get a decent layer of yacht varnish on so the girls could take them home. (They were still a little tacky by the end but survived the journeys)

The yacht varnish is such good quality to use for outside use, it will ensure the integrity of the decoupage through the colder and rainy months.

Some workshops I look at the chaos and mess and smile thinking ‘you’ll be glad this is not at your house’.

❤️💕

Yesterday was my Basic Skills Workshop for Craft Club Juniors.

This compulsory session gives every the children the chance to learn how to safely use a sewing machine, glue gun, iron and hand-sewing needles before they begin making larger projects. It’s also a great opportunity for me to get to know each child, understand their personality and build their confidence before we start our regular workshops.

The children made a small project which encompasses lots of skills like sewing on a button, a skill that plenty of adults haven’t mastered!

What impressed me most was their attitude. They listened well, asked questions, engaged with eachother and showed real determination.

One of the girls was struggling to thread her needle and said, “I can’t do this.”, before I could reply, another child said, “You can’t… yet.” I absolutely loved that. This same child was so determined to do it , which she did 💪🏽

My favourite quote of the afternoon though. “I love the sound of scissors.” YES!! Me too, it’s so satisfying.

The children all love baking so we will have a baking rota. 🧁 Emily is first up in September 😋

They each received a certificate and a lolly at the end of the session

The girls also met Phoebe, who’ll be one of my helpers at Craft Club.

That’s all the patchwork animals completed! ❤️

The girls wanted to make these for such a long time, they’ve worked on them over the last few months during workshops and whenever they’ve had a bit of spare time. Phoebe finished the final one today.

This is the best work I’ve seen from every one of them. We’ve really focused on slowing down, taking pride in their and work, concentrating on technique and neatness.

Everything has been hand sewn, and the quality is outstanding. You wouldn’t know these were made by children.

They’ve chosen beautiful fabrics, worked so carefully, and created something special and unique.
