We're so excited to see our wonderful patron Amar Latif in the Sunday Mirror - helping to raise national awareness of our work!!!
Amar talks exclusively about the day he woke up having completely lost his sight, his inspiration for setting up TraveleyesLtd - Unique Group Adventure Holidays which enables blind and partially sighted people to see the world, and how none of his extraordinary achievements would have been possible without an education.
"If I’d been born outside the UK, my blindness could’ve meant I ended up begging on the streets. Education has given me opportunities. I want to pay that forward to help others, which is why I’m so proud to support Rafiki Thabo Foundation.”
Amar now encourages people to "join him in shining a light on the incredible work being done by Rafiki Thabo Foundation who help disadvantaged children and young people in East Africa to access education through scholarships. Rafiki have helped nearly 1,000 people to study especially helping break down barriers to education faced by children with disabilities."
We are so immensely proud and grateful to have Amar Latif as our patron - our founder, Chair of Trustees Jonathan Uglow says: “Amar is a hugely inspiring individual and it is a privilege to have him as a Patron for Rafiki Thabo Foundation. He has seen first-hand how our scholarship programme can give determined students a head-start in life, removing barriers to education, and empowering them to achieve the careers and the financial stability they deserve. He has also seen how our graduate scheme creates a circle of opportunity: children who once received support return as mentors, sponsors and role models, ensuring that every success story becomes the beginning of another. In our 20th year, we want to help more children than ever to access education so we are urging people to donate if they can.”
