Skeinhawk Yarns

Skeinhawk Yarns Hand dyed yarn with a twist https://www.skeinhawkyarns.co.uk I'm a small batch dyer who loves playing with colour.

The alchemy of dyeing is fascinating and I hope you enjoy the outcomes. I'm also a knitter - I'm slightly too obsessed with socks - and love to see what others create from my yarns. I grew up on a sheep farm myself so wool, and the welfare of the sheep that give it, is close to my heart. I only source my bases from suppliers who do not trade with farms involved in mulesing, and the acid dyes I use

are kind to the environment as all the dye is exhausted (embedded into the wool), and none is left over to get into our precious waterways.

Corrr, how lush is this? This plummy perfection was a custom order for someone who wanted just the right shade for their project. I knew I had just the dye lurking in my collection, but up till now I'd only used it for speckling and mixing. As a semi-solid though, it shines! And I love it so much I'm going to have to replicate it and make it available in the shop (once I've kept one for myself, obvs).

Of course it had to have a suitably punny name, so say hello to "Damson in Distress" 🤦🏻‍♀️💜

What do we think? I reckon it'd be gorgeous paired with some grey, dark blue or even gold.

New shoes, ooh*! I mean, sofa.Thay was a nice bit of manual labour to unwrap and put together this week. Thank goodness the dark chenille is ever so cosy and keeps the heat in nicely. 🥵 Haven't tested it for knitting comfort yet but I have high hopes.

(*I'm sure I'm not the only one of a certain age who has this earworm every time they get an exciting new thing. Well played, Clarks marketing team of 2001).

Also, I can now confirm there are two types of sofa shopping for ADHDers:

1. Buying the first sofa you see in IKEA because it's moving day and you've only got the van till 8 and you want to finish and have a beer.

2. Agonising and hyper focusing over sofa research for 18 months, learning everything about sofas, practically getting a degree in furniture engineering before ordering one, waiting for 4 months and having a lovely surprise when you're told it's on the way because you've entirely forgotten about sofas now and moved on to some other obsession.

This was the second and so far I'm please with past-me's choices. Though last time I did the first option and frankly it was the best sofa I ever had. RIP comfy Tidafors, you were a loyal servant.

It sounds crazy but whern it comes to heatwaves, I reach for my handknit socks. Welol, the ones still on the needles at least. There is definitiely a case to be made that sock knititng is the ideal…

As Spring warms the earth and the leaves unfurl once more, April’s Places of Power Yarn Club pushes aside the branches to take a walk in THE GREENWOOD 🌳

New orders close 15th April 2026, with parcels sent out at the end of the month.

The beating heart of the land, forests and trees have inspired folklore and tradition as deep as the woods themselves. But why do they continue to hold such power?

This month’s mystery colourway draws on green leaves, living wood, and dappled light beneath the canopy.

Each parcel contains:
🧶 100g hand-dyed DK or 4ply sock yarn
🪨 A themed collectible stitch marker
📜 A wax-sealed folklore chapter exploring the history and stories of the Greenwood
