Faversham Market is closing early tomorrow.

FAVERSHAM CHARTER MARKET – EARLY CLOSURE FRIDAY 14 AUGUST

Due to the temperatures forecast for tomorrow, Friday 14 August, Faversham Charter Market will close early at 1pm.

Many of our traders will be set up and ready to serve from 8am, giving shoppers plenty of opportunity to visit the market earlier in the morning, before the heat becomes uncomfortable.

While forecasts vary slightly, the ‘feels like’ temperature from early afternoon onwards is expected to reach 33°C or higher.

Over the past seven weeks we have already had five ambulances attend heat-related incidents in the market area, together with at least two further incidents which, fortunately, did not require paramedic assistance.

With temperatures expected to rise significantly during the afternoon, we believe closing the market at 1pm is the sensible and responsible decision for the wellbeing of our traders, customers and staff.

The normal road closure will remain in place until 4pm. The barrier will therefore remain closed to through traffic, helping to protect pedestrians and customers using the hospitality businesses in Court Street and Market Place after the market itself has finished trading.

The Market Manager will remain on site until after 4pm to supervise the road closure and ensure access can be managed where genuinely required.

So please do come along and support our traders tomorrow - just come early, enjoy the market while it's cooler, and beat the heat!

Thank you for your understanding, and please take care in the hot weather.

ONLY IN FAVERSHAM…

Interesting people finding interesting things.

A market where you might arrive looking for absolutely nothing in particular… and leave with a 200-year-old mirror, a piece of studio pottery, a Victorian curiosity, or an object you simply couldn’t walk away from.

The Faversham Antiques & Decorative Market returns on Sunday 7th June, bringing together traders, collectors, decorators, browsers and treasure-hunters in the heart of one of Kent’s most distinctive market towns.

No two markets are ever quite the same — and that’s rather the point.

This coming Sunday, Faversham steps back into the Victorian age.

From 10am to 3pm, Market Place and Court Street will be filled with the sights, sounds and characters of a traditional Victorian Whitsun Market & Fair - with Punch & Judy, wandering Dickensian singers, traditional market stalls, tarot readings, a Victorian coconut shy, fairground atmosphere and plenty more besides.

Expect music drifting through the streets. The occasional cry of “That’s the way to do it!” from the Punch & Judy booth. Costumed characters appearing around corners. And a town centre that suddenly feels as though it has slipped backwards in time.

The event is free to attend and forms part of a full day of Victorian-themed entertainment in the town.

Then, at 4.30pm, the day continues with acclaimed actor and writer Gerald Dickens - great-great-grandson of Charles Dickens - appearing live at The Assembly Rooms with an entertaining afternoon of Dickensian performance and storytelling.

Last remaining tickets for Gerald Dickens are available now. by using this link: https://www.ticketsource.com/rochesterhistoryguidedtours/t-njjryek
