The Fair Trade Shop is a not-for-profit organisation run by a team of mainly volunteers, working to promote the concept of fair trade and the sale of fair trade goods in Felixstowe and the surrounding area. Originally born from caring individuals in the Ipswich Christian community, we have grown from humble beginnings in the late 1970s when volunteers, working from home, were taking boxes of mail order fair trade products to church and community events throughout Suffolk. Growth was such that in 1996 a permanent home for fair trade in Ipswich was set up at a shop in Orwell Place, and growth continues today when we now operate from larger premises in Upper Brook Street. I n addition to running the Ipswich Fair Trade Shop, the directors and volunteers are engaged in promoting the concept of fair trade through promotional talks to societies and groups. The company is a member of BAFTS (The British Association for Fair Trade Shops and Suppliers) and is associated with other Fair Trade bodies locally, nationally and internationally.

Fairtrade Fortnight begins on Monday, 21st September and we are holding our annual Fun Day on Saturday, 3rd October 10am till 2pm at the library when the winner will be announced. Return your entry to the shop or bring it to the Fun Day. Please put name, age and contact number on the back. Good luck!

Felixstowe Fair Trade Shop is taking part in the art trail tomorrow, Friday and Saturday, 4th and 5th September. This beautiful painting was donated to Felixstowe Fairtrade Forum by the artist, Charmaine McKissock, a former artist in residence of Felixstowe's Community Nature Reserve and will be displayed in the window of the shop at 130 Hamilton Road, next to Bencotto. The art trail has been organised by Helen Newman of Felixstowe Indoor Market There is more information on their page.

As a fair trade shop, Nepal holds a special place in our hearts. Behind the beautiful handmade products we sell are skilled artisans, families and communities — people whose creativity and craftsmanship we value and care about.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected, and with all those waiting anxiously for news of loved ones.

What a busy and brilliant first day! We’ve been so touched by all the lovely customers who came through our doors, said hello and showed their support. ❤️

After 11 days of hard work, it means so much to finally be open — and Felixstowe, you’ve given us the warmest welcome! 🌍🛍️

A huge thank you to our Felixstowe Fairtrade Forum who joined us, and to Felixstowe Town Council Councillor Darren Aitchison cutting the ribbon and helping make our opening so special. 💚
