The Three Volunteers Behind the Craft, Collectables & Curios Market
Every successful community event has people quietly working behind the scenes, giving their time, energy and passion without expecting anything in return. At the heart of the Craft, Collectables & Curios Market in Fishguard are three dedicated volunteers: Dee, Julie and Lynda.
Together, they have built much more than a weekly market. They have created a welcoming community where local traders, charities and visitors come together. Through countless hours of planning, setting up, promoting the market and supporting stall holders, they have helped over 40 local traders showcase their businesses while welcoming hundreds of visitors every month.
Their work is entirely voluntary, yet the impact has been remarkable. After covering the running costs of the hall, the market has donated Β£4,458.80 to local charities by the end of July. Beneficiaries have included Fishguard RNLI, the Royal British Legion, Paul Sartori Foundation, Sea Trust, Sea Cadets, Rainbows, Thunderbolts and many more, making a real difference across Pembrokeshire.
The trio are always looking for new ways to make the market special. Whether organising themed events, encouraging people to dress up for celebrations like the Eisteddfod y Garreg Las 2026, welcoming dogs, offering affordable refreshments in partnership with Tesco, or creating a friendly atmosphere for everyone, they put the community first.
Despite facing challenges and obstacles, Dee, Julie and Lynda continue to give their time with determination and kindness. They believe that small acts of community spirit can create lasting change, and their dedication has brought people together while supporting local businesses and raising thousands of pounds for good causes.
