I ask makers this question a lot.

Not because it’s guaranteed - nothing is. But because the answer tells you something important about what you actually want from your business.

For most, it’s not more, it’s about making enough.
Having some predictability without the early start, the boot full of stock, the gamble with the weather gods and the slow pack-down when it hasn’t gone well.

One well-planned and filled workshop a month can do what three fairs can’t.

And once you’ve run one and have the confidence that it works- that people leave having made something and thanking you, the second one is easier. And then the next and then the next.

I want to help you run the first one, maybe it might even be the next one after that first one didn’t go so well.

On the 11th June I’m doing just that- teaching you everything you need to know about running workshops - live and free.

Picture this. ⬇️

It’s a Saturday morning.
You’ve got a group of lovely, excited people sitting around a table, and you’re teaching them something you’ve known how to do for years.

Two or so hours later, every one of them leaves with something finished in their hands and a huge smile on their face.

And you? You’ve just made more money in one morning than you’d make in a full week of finishing, photographing, listing and posting your work, or the long days standing at a craft fair

💡It’s what’s possible when you have a clear plan

👩🏻‍🎨workshop that fills - even without a big following

💷A price that covers your costs and actually pays you properly

AND the confidence to run another one, and another one after that!

I’m running a FREE LIVE EVENT on 11th June:

You've thought about running a workshop, maybe more than once and then something stops you...
"I'm not qualified enough to teach."
"What would I even charge?"
"What if I set it all up and nobody comes?"
So the idea sits there on the back burner- Again.

Here's what I’ve noticed: the makers who run the best workshops are not the ones with the most impressive CVs or technical qualifications - they're the ones who remember what it was like to not know how to do the thing they now do brilliantly.

They can explain the confusing bit because they remember being confused by it. They know what questions beginners ask because they asked them. They make people feel like they can do it because they genuinely believe they can, because they did.

That's you, right? 😊

So now I've convinced you that you could do it, come and find out exactly how.

On Thursday, 11th June at 8pm I'm running a free online live event called: Your First Paid Workshop- How to Plan, Price and Fill It.

I'm covering everything so that you could literally go and start! Including what to teach, what to charge, and how to get people in the room - even if you have a small following and zero teaching experience. There are also two free resources if you stay to the end 🎁

It might be the thing that finally gets that workshop out of your head and into reality.

Someone says it once.
It might be  a partner,  a friend or maybe even it’s just the voice in your head.

“But you’re not a real teacher.”

And just like that, the ideas inspired by others doing it, the workshop you’d imagined you could run, the extra income you’d been hoping for, are back as a pipedream.

You manage to convince yourself you need to be qualified in some way, that people won’t trust you, that they’ll think you’re rubbish, that you’ll be found out as some kind of fraud.

One silly sentence that unnecessarily closes a door that was never locked from you in the first place.

I’ve run loads of workshops and worked with makers who have, and the ones who fill workshops and earn way more in a morning than they do standing for hours at craft fairs aren’t qualified teachers. They’re just people who know their craft, love sharing it, and decided to stop waiting for permission to give it a go.

If you’re ready to stop letting that one phrase hold you back,

COME & JOIN ME for FREE LIVE EVENT on 11th June.

Not enough makers realise this, but running your first craft workshop has everything to do with just deciding to do it.

If you want to add workshop income to your craft business, these three things will make it so much easier:

⭐️Knowing that enthusiasm for your craft matters more than teaching credentials
⭐️Understanding the numbers before you begin - what to charge, how many people you need, what you’ll actually earn
⭐️Knowing there
is support to help you do it

👩🏻‍🎨I’m Suzanne and I’m on a mission to get you running paid workshops becuase I believe every maker deserves a business that pays them properly without relying on making more.

Workshops are one of the simplest ways to get there, and I want to show you how.

Ready to make it happen?

Let me bust some misconceptions about running craft workshops, I hear makers say.

These simple truths might just change whether you decide to start delivering workshops to make more money from your craft. Save this for when you need a reminder.

People often say ‘I’m not a ‘proper’ teacher, ‘ by which I know they mean having a qualification. Sure, a trained level of understanding teaching & learning might be an advantage, but can’t not run one if you don’t have a PGCE. You are sharing your skills and knowledge about a craft you know inside out - that’s qualification enough in this context.

Your follower count has absolutely no bearing on who books onto your workshop; it boils down to the wider advertising you do beyond social media. You don’t need thousands to come; you might only need six people. You probably already know six people!

Most craft workshops are hands-on and intimate. You decide how to deliver it, that might be sitting around together at a table,  moving around the room or helping one-on-one. It’s nothing like presenting to an audience.

There’s no set rule about how long you have to have been practising your craft; you just need to know more than the person sitting across from you

It’s sensible to take bookings first and know it’ll be viable to run before you do any buying. There’s no need to be out of pocket.

2nd half hours. Six people. £45 each. That’s £270 before you’ve made a ton of stock, packed a single box or paid a stall fee.

So much of what holds makers back from giving workshops a go is reasons that are unproven or in their heads and most aren’t actually true.

If you’re sitting on the idea of running a workshop but can’t quite get yourself to the start line, come and join me on the 11th June. I’m running a free Live Event— Your First Paid Workshop: how to plan, price and fill it, even if you’ve never taught before

The results are in! 🤩and I owe you a small confession! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Turns out I accidentally put two lies in a which-is-the-lie post.

Genuinely didn’t mean to! Whoops! Swipe to see the full truth on all six, including the one I didn’t intend.

Did any of them surprise you?

This is a brain dump of all the things I can think of if a maker came to me and said, “I want to run my first workshop but I have no idea where to start.”

Borderline overly detailed for a carousel I know! but that was the point! 😆

I’ve used my own experience so this is not a generic checklist, and every maker’s first workshop will look different, but I think these are the key things to think about!

If you’re selling physical makes and thinking about teaching as a next income step with  workshops, classes, one-to-ones, that kind of thing - you’ll find this a super helpful first start.

📌Save this for when you need it and share with a maker friends  who’s been putting off giving workshops a go.
