Good luck to all those collecting their GCSE results today!
Almost two years ago I removed my youngest from a local high school. Following a meeting where they refused to acknowledge his neurodivergence without an official diagnosis (got to love the long waiting lists) I realised he would never pass one exam there. They refused reasonable adjustments and the SENCO, despite other professionals pushing, would not support the referral. In her words, she didn’t see there was an issue.
Nearly two years later, after fighting alone, Ted has his diagnosis. He has all the reasonable adjustments he is entitled to and, after nearly two years of home education, he has his first two GCSE passes in Year 10!
GCSEs aren’t the be all and end all, but our children also shouldn’t be disadvantaged because of a fractured education system. Home education isn’t easy but it’s also not as hard as the constant battles with school and the impact on our children’s health. If you are a parent battling the school system, please know there is light at the end of the very dark tunnel.
So this summer it’s a massive congratulations to Ted, hard work paid off. It’s been a whole family affair getting to grips with all the technology needed to learn from home, but we have taken our first steps towards Teds success. I know lots of you got to know him in the shop and wished him well. We are super proud of his achievements and in the wonderful young man he is ❤️
