Make today’s weather with me. It’s a grey old day down on the south coast, but not quite the washout the forecast led me to believe. So no sparkly blue raindrops for this little guy. If only I could actually sew this fast! A great little sewing project for a glum day, perfect for beginners. Find the kit on Folksy or the pattern on Payhip.

My town hosts a regular free-cycle event where households register to offer their unwanted items to neighbours. Yesterday was our most recent. It’s amazing for children’s items as they age out of toys and game so easily. We had a great clear out of the shed and loft and even won best display (I think it might have been the sunflowers which swung it). Just have a look at some of these great displays, all offered gladly at no cost at all. How cute is that?!

I'm a total weirdo when it comes to making kits - I have always batch made them in 4's and 8's because, let's be real, it's all about maximizing that embroidery thread real estate! I mean, who needs freedom of choice when you can have 8 identical kits, am I right? 😂 As a result, I've got a stash of ready-to-go kits just waiting to be shipped out ASAP. Yesterday's spares are a wild mix - think Christmas Woodland, bright Dinosaur, pastel Princess, and my personal fave, Nautical. Links below for all you impulse shoppers out there... who can resist a deer with glittery antlers, anyway? 🦌✨

Blanket stitch is the trickiest part of sewing felt decorations. But, not to give away all my magic secrets, it’s really not that tricky at all. Do a quick practise on two offcuts of felt and you will be up and running in five minutes. It’s a great activity to do whilst watching tv on an evening as it doesn’t take too much concentration.
It will snag on the ribbon or any pointy out bits, it’ll get the occasional knot you need to unpick, but I’ve been doing this 15 years and I just edited those bits out of this video! I should have picked a different decoration to a wind cloud as those glittery little puffs of air do like to grab the thread. But that’s what a video edit is for 😉

Which sounds terrifying… but actually means we’ve got 100 whole days to enjoy making things! 😍

I’m a big fan of a slow Christmas. A little bit of stitching here, a few decorations there, and before you know it you’ve made your own advent calendar or a lovely garland to bring out year after year.

No frantic Christmas Eve sewing. No “I’ll just make 24 little felt things tonight” decisions. 😂

Just cosy crafting, a cup of tea, maybe a Christmas film playing in the background… and enjoying the fact that you’re making something that will become part of your Christmas traditions.

Because handmade Christmas decorations don’t need to be perfect. They just need to be made with a bit of time, a bit of love and preferably somewhere comfy to sit. ❤️

So, 100 days to go…

I’m calling it: let the slow Christmas crafting begin! 🎄✂️✨
