In preparation for colouring the helmet for my latest workshop, I had fun playing with the 4 different shades of gold and the 2 shades of silver to see which ones worked well together for the colour palette we needed. In the end she chose the antique silver with dry brushed highlights of silver and the clear gold for the gold patterns.

This young lady did an amazing job at colouring her helmet today. She chose the base colours and did all the dry brush highlighting to really add depth to her piece. The fine detailing of the patterns will take a lot of patience and focus so we decided it would be best for her to take some varnish and pigment powder home with her to continue in shorter bursts of time where she can sustain her concentration and remain highly focussed. She made a great start to
these finer details today. I have been promised photos of her finished helmet and also of her whole costume at the event. Her costume sounds wonderful and I cannot wait to see them.

For those who guessed or wanted to know, her helmet is for Gimli the Dwarf from Lord of the Rings.

All set up for part 2 of the workshop tomorrow when i will have a young lady (and her mum) back. She will be adding colour to her helmet. 🪖 I’ve enjoyed experimenting with different colour combinations on my mock up to let her see all the different combinations and possibilities. It will be another session of lots of decision making and lots of patience to complete the very fine detailing. She did so well making the helmet. I can’t wait to see what colour combos she chooses tomorrow and how the piece looks once finished! Let the creativity flow……

I’m feeling like a kid in a toy shop! I got a Powertex delivery today- a few more bottles of Powertex universal medium and a huge stash of pigment powders. Some of these are new colours I’ve not tried before and some are colours I already have but will be used for making up kits for upcoming workshops. I can’t wait to try out some of these colours I’ve not tried before.

I ran a workshop at the weekend that was customised for a young lady. I really enjoyed playing around and experimenting during the preparation stage when planning how to make the item and plan the workshop. It was good to try out various ideas, experiment with different textures and products to see what would work well and what might not work so well on this project but would work well on other projects. Every day is a fun day with Powertex.

I had the pleasure of welcoming this young lady yesterday for a workshop to help her make a part of her costume for a comic con event she’s going to. Any guesses who she is going to be?

She’ll be back in a couple of weeks to colour her creation. This was her first time using Powertex and she did an amazing job. Well done and I look forward to part 2.

These are the latest commission pieces I have been working on. These 5 will all be hung on the customer’s garden fence and shed to add some colour. Powertex is weatherproof within 3 weeks of drying so is ideal to use for decorating outdoor spaces.
